Pharmeasy medicines original or fake?

Is there a way to verify if medicines purchased from online like pharmeasy is original or fake?

Hdfc via smartbuy gives great discount. So wanted to know if it's safe to buy or not
how can you verify if you can elaborate? All these medicine stores are heavily regulated by Central Drugs Standard Control Organization esp for online marketplace. They ask you to upload Rx before buying the order. I have been using Pharmeasy via smartbuy and so far without any issues. The only downside is not all medicines are available at all pin code and sometimes delivery takes >7 days even to Tier 2 cities.

I meant these medicines are from different sellers. So how do we verify if they are genuine
I'm sorry, but what kind of question is that?

Let me ask you this: how do you verify that your local pharmacist isn't selling you fake antibiotics? Can you determine that by a taste test?

You cannot verify that, government is there for you.

This isn't an electronics store, mate, where you can find cheap/faulty products.

All sellers in this field are genuine, and every pharmacy is registered under the CDSCO.

If they gets caught selling fake medicines, they could lose their license and face jail time.

Thanks for the response and sorry if my question doens't make sense. I came across a news article that a pharma store was selling fake medicines. So just wanted to know if this can happen online. And thanks for the response and I'm clear now

No worries, I completely understand the hesitation. Don't worry, platforms like PharmEasy, Apollo Pharmacy, Netmeds, and Tata 1mg are all genuine.

These companies already have that fear, which you are having and they are cautious about it since such incidents could severely damage their reputation and further governmental issues.

Rest assured, you can make that purchase. You will get digital bill and in case, they don't have any medicine they will call you or a doctor will call you to give you any alternative and you will have his credentials as well.

It's all legal. You will have so much proofs in case anything goes wrong, though the chances of that happening are extremely low about less than 1%.

Understood. Thanks for the explanation ☺️

Hi this is a very genuine question and concern. not only pharmeasy but any chemist may be selling fake medicine even without knowing . There is no sure shot way of determining but you can check by following method : Around top 300 brands of medicine are regulated by govt to have a qr code in the packing , once you scan it it will take you to product information page of the manufacturer , you can check for this if the source from where you are buying medicine have this qr code on most of the medicine and it redirect to manufacturer website you can be sure that he is getting his medicine from genuine source.

However much one tries to convince in such mis-trust matters, it is very difficult to convince.
As a rule, buyers must be aware, vigilant and careful.
And, buyers should buy only from trusted sources (in their perceived view and experience).

Now-a-days, nothing is immune from adulteration, fake and spurious, look-alikes. So, go with your own feeling,
experience and wisdom to select the best among the very many options you have - offline and online.
Be it vegetables, or groceries, or clothes, or medicines or any other items sold by mostly unknown vendors.

So, be vigilant, be careful and be well informed. Instead of asking others for confirmation in this vital issue.
Because, trusting and mis-trusting is in-born. No amount of external guidance would help. Speaking from my
experience.

I wouldn't recommend buying from Pharmeasy just to get some additional RP points. If we are ordering medicines for any chronic disease, they tend to push some other brand to the customers which is completely not a customer friendly approach.

If we are ordering medicines of 1 brand, we should get the order delivered for same brand; not make customers wait for the medicines when they are in dire need of medication.

Yeah this is good point, we should order only if we find right medicine there not any alternatives

I buy regularly from pharmeasy. Every time they call and try to push alternate brands I simply ask them to cancel the entire order. After 4-5 times this happened, they have stopped calling.

To all those people, who are stupifying this user's concern.

There is a central body, which regulates the qualities of medicines and stores. True. Now like our Indian cricket team, this so strong on paper, and is an adopted baby of the government. However, when it comes to performance, it is like sanju Samson. Shathak ya bathak..

Not all medical stores, and Pharma companies, despite being regulated, delivers 100% drug formulations. There is the fallacy, as well as the limit of this so called body. How many times have you had a paracetamol medicine from a government hospital/dispensary for a fever/headache, and had another one from a medical store, just because the government one did not provide any relief/effect. Few months ago, there was a newspaper report from nagpur, where a government medicine was found to have medicines which contained nothing but talcum powder mixed with starch. The funny thing being, the manufacturer is a veterinary laboratory. Attaching the link herewith.

This practices in government hospitals, is another thing to discuss, which will never change, and further discussion of this might only bring me more unwanted comments.

This is not an isolated incident. Being, an insider to the healthcare system, I can vouch for that.

Now coming to private stores. They support those brands which gives them either 1) huge margins with high turnover, or 2) huge absolute profit per tablet/strips. To meet their investment, all of them (atleast non-branded stores), will support those unheard brands like XYZ, which provides huge profit for them. How does these drug makers and distributors make profit? By reducing the amount of actual medicine in the tablet, by not advertising properly, and manufacturing only on basis of demands. No medicine, no side effect. This is their Mantra.. Not concerned about of effects. To make things lucrative for the customer, they also list the MRP at lower than market standards. These happens only with generic formulations, that is those drugs which are not licensed to one single company. All might have heard of stores which offer 20-30% discounts. The story is either the same, or born out of tie ups. They rarely provide branded (big brands) medicines. (Not generalising).

Here comes the big brands and branded/nationalised outlets. They does this practise to the least extent, as for them the image matters more, and effects matters the most. To combat this image and potency, they tend to list the MRP of the same formulations (made from their own/sourced laborataries) at a higher than standard. Thereby keeping the margins intact, flow intact and having most effects (and also side effects if any).

So the central body is only on paper. Not even the drugs available in your neighbouring government hospital, is being monitored by this midas agency (which brings actual gold to the government).

Now how to verify their drugs? You cannot, unless you have a pharmaceutical laboratory. The same goes for the neutraceutical sector.

So the final note is, buy only trusted brands.

Cannot whistleblow further, as I do not want to invite trouble.
