Guys! Amazon is amazing!!! 😀

They solved this problem within an hour. This is what happened.

Sorry for the looong post. 😅

1. Called Amazon Customer Care at around 8:20 PM. Explained the problem. The initial response was what many in the thread have said (no solution but to use the INR 150 Prime balance and then use the annual voucher after the expiry of the existing membership). I expressed my disappointment and requested them to either cancel the existing INR 150 voucher or manually add an annual membership after taking and validating the annual voucher from me. The person said it was not possible but forwarded the matter to their internal team.

2. Received the call at 8:35 PM. The Amazon girl reiterated that what I requested was not possible. Upon requesting her to help me out, she asked me to buy a 1-month/3-month membership by using an INR 150 balance and then paying the remaining amount by other payment methods except any voucher balances. She said they would refund the balance amount to the payment source after membership cancellation. I went ahead to buy a 12-month shopping membership worth INR 399 since the 1-month plan cannot be bought using the prime balance.

Problem: I had INR 1500 in my shopping voucher balance, and on the payment method, the payment option combined both prime and shopping voucher balances (Said, 'Use INR 399 from eligible INR 1650 voucher balances' or something like that). This means I will end up paying the remaining amount (INR 249) from the shopping voucher balance, and she had told me they can't refund the amount if it has come from vouchers.

The Amazon girl said the only solution is to use the voucher on another Amazon account. I explained how much of an inconvenience it would be since shopping vouchers, UPI, Amazon Pay CC, order history, etc., are all linked with this account, and I don't have another mobile number either. She then said she would discuss it with their team and they would call me back in some time.

3. Received the call around 9:00 PM. The Amazon guy suggested first placing an Amazon shopping order worth INR 1500 or more to use all the shopping voucher balance, then paying for the 12-month shopping membership with Prime balance + another payment method, canceling the Prime membership and getting INR 249 refunded, then finally canceling the shopping order to get INR 1500 back. I repeated one of my recent orders.

I bought the INR 399 12-month Prime shopping membership but then could not see any option to cancel it. The Amazon guy figured it could not be canceled from my end since the prime balance was used to avail it, and I would not receive the INR 249 refund automatically. He then canceled it manually and also raised a request to manually refund INR 249 to the source (I have received the mail confirming this). He then also canceled my shopping order.

He stayed on call till I used the INR 1499 voucher and activated the membership.

Just next-level customer service from Amazon!

so, you utilized first and then added.. same process followed but in different way.

moreover this is tiresome process and luckily you got good agent to listen or atleast call back, I didn't get any.

btw, what happened to your 150?

All three agents were kind, polite and highly knowledgeable. I think the entire team which looks after prime membership related issues is really good.

Yeah, indeed it was tiresome but what other option did I have? I wanted to stick only to this amazon account. 😅

₹150 zomato ya paytm se mila tha...it is gone...tata, bye bye, khatm. 🥲

so, you're ok with loosing 150. Alternatively you can purchase those anytime gift cards, which is not again much value but something better than nothing.

Yes, I could have done it had I been patient enough to wait for your reply.

After your first reply, I tried to buy some amazon envelops but for each of them the option to pay from eligible vouchers was disabled. Maybe I was trying to buy the wrong ones.

Actually even now I don't have a complete clarity on this. So, as I said I had both the prime balance and shopping voucher balance. On the payment page, there is no distinction and the 'from eligible vouchers' payment option just sums both the balances.

So if I have ₹1500 shopping balance and ₹150 prime balance, and lets say if I buy ₹195 worth anytime envelops, then which balance would be used first?

If they follow FIFO without caring about type of voucher, then I am doomed because among those ₹1500 shopping vouchers, 2 ₹500 shopping vouchers are older than ₹150 prime balance voucher.

I used 'Talk to Us' button in the app and selected 'Prime membership Monthly to Annual Change' and then pressed 'Continue to customer care.' The instant call that received had a person from Prime membership team (the person introduced himself like that).

I told him that I have an annual membership voucher worth ₹1499 from RuPay Select DC with 30 days validity, and told the error message I got (which is the title of the thread) when I tried to use it. I further told him the possible reason could be ₹150 prime voucher balance which is there in my account.

He took some time and came back saying they can't do anything and I will have to first spend ₹150. Then I told him how even buying some subscription first using ₹150 balance doesn't solve my problem because of the 30 day validity of the annual voucher. I then requested him about the two possible solutions which I have explained in my first post.

Upon he telling their inability to do any of it, I (politely 😛) asked him whether they don't want customers to take annual membership, and told him this is very much disappointing that I am facing this issue. I continued my rant asking why do I have to suffer just because I already have one prime voucher in account, which is supposed to make things easier apart from saving my money, and which I am also willing to do away with. I also pointed out the ₹1499 prime balance cap which they have enforced is causing this issue and because of it, I am spending my evening talking to amazon customer care.

He first kept the call on hold saying he will see if something can be done and came back after some time saying they need some more time and they would call back in some time since otherwise it would be a long call hold.

When the second call came and the agent told they discussed issue and that there isn't anything that they can do, I said things like how I am an old prime customer, how I have been buying most of my stuff from Amazon all these years, blah blah blah and then she kept the call on hold saying she will again discuss and came back with the membership avail + cancellation solution. I have talked about what I said on the account change solution in the post.

The third person was already pretty much kind and polite.

For me it shows only APV balance. ASV never shown for these vouchers. Either Prime voucher or Pay voucher.

@vaibhav111 did it shown ASV balance to you?

yes, so 4592 is my ASV as per above ss + 1500 = 6092 it showed in ASV when i try to add the code. and it worked. my Apay balance was low like 392 so it was disable for me to use cause of low balance i guess.

I have also received the GC today. I ordered these from my second account for the trial. I will cancel the order next time I order from my primary account after adding the 1499. One more thing After adding the 1499 is id valid for 1YR?
that's what I am thinking of doing.

1. use 150 voucher and get GC.
2. add 1499 prime voucher.
3. get prime.
4. cancel order for GC.

burt my concern is @Anindya98 that should i take shopping edition or full prime, cause I only need shopping edition but 1499 voucher will expire before I can renew prime again for next year right ??

if anyone else is here for the answer prime customer care told me I can buy 399 membership, and then before expiry of this one next year on 25th september.

I can cancel the membership and then use the remaiming 1100 and buy prime again for next year. just do it before the expiry of current prime voucher.

I have taken the GC and not canceled it.
If you have a 1499 Prime Voucher then use the full
else use the shopping edition
