RBIO: Got Compensation of ₹10,000 from Canara Bank

What happened? .
Same Old story -
Flashback-
I can see card is getting expired in Dec 24.
Net Banking, Mobile Banking - No info, no option to apply. No update.

Card is being issued or not.

Toll free are as always tool free- go to branch.
On 9th Feb they charged Debit card maintenance+ GST 295.
Already stock market is giving pain, smids falling badly, so it boiled me.
I just wrote them to reverse the charges.
Than reminder 1, reminder 2.
Complained than on internal grievances

Action strated-
Later got the call from a fellow(not the bank employee) your card is at the branch pls come and collect.

Top of it-got the mail.
Sir,
Pls visit branch for getting new Debit card.
Manager.

A customer is always having the fun having mail id , mobile no , net banking, mobile banking - still clueless - where is my debit card.
What happened? .

wanted to ask , in the rbio complaint, how does one attach the proof of not receiving any sms or email? do you send the subject line of emails of that timeline? also email/sma can be deleted right ,so how does that work ? can the banks not just say that we had sent it and the customer may have deleted/neglected it ?(newbie here)

First of all thanks to RBIO once again for upholding customer rights 🙏🙏🙏.

Canara Bank increased MAB from ₹1000 to ₹2000 for my savings account and didn't bother to inform me in any way. Neither did they bother to send the mandatory advance notification before deducting NMMB charges. They charged me Rs. 30 on 2 occasions post increasing the MAB requirement. I came to know about the increased MAB after 2 months when I visited a different branch and saw the notice displayed at the cash counter. I immediately transferred ₹1000 to meet the new MAB. I was not aware that any charges were debited because I didn't get any SMS notifications of the same. I came to know about the debits after more than a year when I updated the passbook.

This is my 20+ years old account which I maintain only because I have a locker. I keep transferring ₹1 every now and then to keep the account active. I don't have net banking, no debit or ATM card neither did I have the Canara e-Passbook app as I never bothered to check the balance.

After updating the passbook I complained to the branch about the charges, highlighting the RBI clause which says 30 days advance intimation is mandatory for change in MAB requirement and debit of NMMB charges. But branch did not reply, so escalated to HO who also didn't bother to respond. Finally after 7 months when I threatened to complaint to RBIO my complaint was closed immediately stating charges debited as per bank's policy, MAB requirements and NMMB charges are displayed/available at branches.

I really don't need to tell you what happened next - right:beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

In response to RBIO complaint, received mail from Branch on 30-Jan stating "As a one time gesture we have reversed Rs 50.84 (Excluding GST) to your account. Kindly find the current minimum balance charges:"

Received complaint closure SMS and mail from Canara Bank yesterday (17-Feb) evening and quickly checked Canara e-Passbook app and found ₹10,000 credited to my SB AC on 13-Feb with RBIO complaint number in the description.

Received RBIO complaint closure mail today (18-Feb) morning.

My mom and brother have Yes Bank 10k MAB acct. I did not Maintain the balance from October to Jan. After that gave closure request but they said the addon might get closed as well so delayed the closure because I had a trip upcoming where I needed addon for lounge. Now they've added NMMB charges but they did not alert me in Oct/Nov/Dec'24 that my balance is not as per required MAB. Now in FEB'25 I received emails and SMS that charges for non maintainance will be deducted and October charges have been deducted. Can anything be done? I just want to get the charges back and close account....

I had great faith in this system and also won 10k against canara for mis selling of insurance but recently lost a battle against union Bank of India.

I can guarantee you bank will not reverse, you have to complaint to RBIO. Since you can't prove that you didn't get mail/sms you have to try taking a confirmation from bank that notifications were not sent. If you can get it your case is solid, if you can't then it will depend on RBIO what he thinks.
