Hi TF Community,

On 26-05-23, I did a flight booking transaction via EaseMyTrip. I was casually checking the SBICard app after 3 days and noticed the CB hasn't been credited for the transaction. I immediately opened up a ticket. For 3-5 days, they kept telling me the transaction is not settled.

I escalted it later and asked them if the transaction is settled. I also asked for the MCC code to which they replied this:

Moreover, On calls these SBI representatives were telling me that you'll get the CB 2 days after statement generation. I guess they were lying too.
In my last reply to nodal officer, I shared the screenshot of EMT that shows that it's a flight transaction.

What are the options left for me? I'm ready to take it upto RBI Ombusdman level.

Merchant will never ever accept their mistake for cashback not getting credited
Yes you are right
. Also, same merchant shares different MCC to different banks. Don't you think bank has atleast some role in classification there? Merchant k paas itna time thodi hoga ki har bank ko alg alg share krte rhega.
Let me Explain.

There are two terminolgy

First is "Acquirer"i.e, Payment gateway's partner Bank.

Like in case of Amazon, Amazon now introduced Payu Gateway. So whenever your Payment is routed via Payu Gateway on Amazon. Acquirer will remain same.

and Second is "Terminal ID"
Now Acquirer Provides different terminal to Merchant .

For example On Gift Cards Purchase on Amazon we are getting WWW AMAZON IN and Cashback SBI is giving 5%.

When we did Add money via Uber, Merchant Name is Same but terminal is different and hence same Merchant name gives Wallet MCC.

Now It is dependent on Merchant and Gateway whether to use different terminal for different categories of txns or to route all txns via single Terminal.

If two txns were processed via same Acquirer ID and terminal ID then MCC would remain same phir chaye Card kisi bhi bank ka ho, unless Gateway Change the MCC at Backend at any point of time for future txns

I think this is the reason we don't get cashback on same txn for few banks whereas other banks' card is giving Cashback. SBI ki galti h yaha.
Arre bhai jab on-boarding Process hota hai toh Merchant apni business category select karta hai phir Paytment Gateway/ Bank MCC assign karti hai uss category ke according.

The photo you shared meant that MCC is reported by Acquirer Bank only.

Acquirer Bank akkad bakkd Bambe bo toh karega nhi Merchant ki MCC decide karne ke liye , On-boarding Process m Merchant ne jo Business Category select ki hogi Bank ne woh MCC assign kar di.

Mobikwik Utility MCC de raha hai CC Payments par ?
Kabhi socha hai kyu ?
Sochke batayio

SBI ki galti kaise. MCC is provided to merchant by bank or payment processor, so in this case we don't know who the bank or payment processor is, it could be anyone. In short not SBI's fault.

Mcc remains same by default but txn category can be different as set by bank.
That is another angle.

Banks Club similar MCC under different Categories as per their choice.

Example
MCC 4899
This MCC is Basically belongs to Entertainment - OTT SUBSCRIPTIONS

But SBI and Axis Classify it as Utility.
Here Bank is at fault but we can't do noting as they Published it as Tncs

Transaction category doesn't matter. Mcc matters.
MCC matters but under which Category Bank is considering it also matters.

For Example
Axis, SBI and HDFC gives an offer that spend 1k on Utility and get flat 100 Cashback.

Suppose You did a txn and MCC tagged with it is 4899

Now Axis and SBI will consider this txn as eligible since for them MCC 4899 belongs to Utility.

But HDFC will deny the Cashback since for HDFC MCC 4899 belongs to Entertainment

Entertainment is the most appropriate classification for MCC 4899

Update:

SBI finally accepted the fault and agreed to credit the cashback to my account.

However, They mentioned that there is a problem with EMT MCC code.

In nutshell, Stay away with EMT if you want CB on this card.
Bhai bamboo Nodal officer tak pahucha diya tha aapne ....Kuch na kuch to hona hi tha...After effect of bamboo ,They agreed on cashback...
