My father-in-law (FIL) has an account in PNB, a savings bank account. He wrote a cheque to a religious charitable organisation for a sum of Rs. 1100. This is not his first time donating to that organisation. Rs. 1100 was written in both numbers and words, as is the case usually. When the cheque was encashed in the charitable organisation's bank account (SBI), Rs. 11,000 were deducted from my FIL's PNB account.

The next day he went to the PNB bank. There the bank staff told him that it's SBI's fault, not ours. He went to the SBI branch and there they told him that they have raised the complain and the balance money will come back. All this was verbal. My FIL did not give a written complain anywhere. Four months have passed, nothing has happened.

Who is the fault here? My guess, it's both SBI and PNB. How to raise such a complain via email? I don't want my FIL to go to the branches again.

Can we demand the interest along with the extra amount that was wrongfully deducted? Can we additionally demand a compensation for mental harrasment?

@sjmajumder - sir please guide them
First of all get a copy of the cheque from your home branch. You might need to give them a written application for the same. Then file written complaint with your home branch/customer care with cheque copy and statement. Demand reversal of excess amount debited, interest and compensation. If not resolved within 30 days complaint to RBIO.
