Scam Alert for Amex Referral ⚠️

When I took referral for AMEX from someone, they told me they will give 1k amazon voucher and he did.
Even I am willing to provide 750 or 1k amazon voucher for people using my referral. Damn these people leave no space for trust.

how are people giving apay vouchers with refferal ?
is amex giving this to them or are they redeeming their MR points and giving this benefit
Giving from own

Definitely not be redeeming MR as that conversion gives very less value per MR

Whoever finds value of MR much higher giving apay voucher based on his budget ranging from 500 to 2000 (may be even more)

assume it gives points on approval for a fyf card if it is not activated it is a loss for amex
not sure why amex would keep it this way
For a FYF card, why does it matter whether the card was activated or not, in the first year, they are not getting any fees either way.

It may make sense for a paid card to have that condition. But given that they have explicitly mentioned about the person who got referred only getting his bonus points on a spending criteria but the person who refers gets it on approval, I would take it at face value.

Generally, these American companies optimize for user experience than starting with the assumption of being scammed. If they do detect that some loophole is being exploited, they will then take action, sometimes even retrospectively.

but the potential mdr revenue from card spends
i took plat travel via someones referral and i received 2k points after i spent some amount
i guess you have to spend 5k within first 30 or 90 days to get the benefit

Also if the refferred person closes his card without activating amex can just reverse the points credited

If the referred person (MGMee) activates the card but does not spend (or does 1 Rs spend) and closes it, then as well Amex does not gain anything from that. Another point of view is that by trying to connect the referral rewards of the MGMer to that of the spending pattern of the MGMee, then Amex is somewhat indirectly leaking that information to the MGMer which may also be a restriction on Amex.

Yes, this is explicitly mentioned in their T&Cs, but does not link the MGMer's rewards with the MGMee's spending milestones

Yes, they definitely can, but it is not mentioned anywhere. Maybe they dont want to prematurely optimize for an edge scenario.

I want to know why is this called a scam?
Let's say if I apply via someone's referral & they didn't gave Amazon Pay voucher (promised by them).
I still get AMEX MRCC with all referral benefits, like FYF & fee reduction from second year onwards - 2k reward points.
It's technically not a scam, they didn't fulfilled their promise but yeah I still got what I wanted & the person didn't took anything from me.
He got his benefit & I got mine.

Very naive viewpoint. MGMer has done an agreement unofficially to share rewards with MGMee. If the MGMer no longer holds his end of the deal, then he has defrauded the MGMee. If the MGMer never intended to hold his end, then he intentionally scammed the MGMee.
