Scam Alert for Amex Referral ⚠️

Hello fellow technofino community members,
Be cautious of DMs promising Amazon Gift Vouchers for Amex approval via referral. I fell victim to a scam like this by @Martius (Sahil). I have screenshots for the whole conversation.

Very naive viewpoint. MGMer has done an agreement unofficially to share rewards with MGMee. If the MGMer no longer holds his end of the deal, then he has defrauded the MGMee. If the MGMer never intended to hold his end, then he intentionally scammed the MGMee.

Maybe you are right but couple of questions,
First, What is unofficial agreement, I haven't came across anytime?
Second, what did he got scammed?

No dude, I am giving 1k only to whoever used it. But I was curious on scam part.
I was fine when I applied via referral & even if I didn't get. But luckily person hold on his words.

Agreements/Contracts need not be always on stamp paper. Majority of India works in verbal agreements. For an agreement/contract to be valid, X has to offer Y and Y has to accept X's offer, and ofcourse the offer itself should not be illegal etc. Now if X does not fulfill the agreement, then Y can always sue X. If it were in America, Y can simply go to small claims court, show the DMs as proof and get paid his dues from X. But, good luck to Y in getting this prosecuted in the Indian courts.

In this case, they are going for some form of arbitration with the moderators, end result of which MGMer could either pay the MGMee on the agreed upon offer or could get banned if he doesnt make the MGMee whole.

When I was actually scammed in CSGO skins (not sure if you are aware of), i lost around ~9k. I thought that was scammed, but was not able to do anything. But what you said kinda make sense.

On side note, how do I know if someone used my referral, how can I check it?

If someone got approved for card through your referral, you get MR points immediately
(no other way to track)

you click on your / my / any referral link and then see the initial screen...

Just ask the person to send the SS with application number after applying and the send the screenshot on receiving approval.

You cant. Only way to know is if you get the points. Amex MGM Program T&C explicitly states "Please note that credit information and approval is confidential and AEBC shall not notify the MGMer of MGMee's application/credit status at any time."

That makes it very tricky for managing these side deals. I personally only give out referrals only when the previous referral is completed.

Does Amex confirm if the application was made under your referral, if we provide the application number?

not always, there are people giving more than that including me and anirban. We have something that we can afford to give or have different plan for that points.

if we dont activate the card then will the scammer still get the rewards? also whats the policy of amex these days with respect to non activation? will they automatically close the card?

Rewards approve hone pe hi mil jaate hai toh activate karo ya mat karo farak nhi padta

Thanks for the vouching, got 20+ referral for this community and all deliver without hiccups. few asked for proof, few had trust issue, few came for repetitive referrals. I have seen all odds for referrals.
