You are quoting 30 paise per 1 Airmile from an article which was written long before flying returns program was refreshed few days back.

Right now you can book tickets for 5K points if booked 3 months in advance. It is good value for sectors that usually retail for 4.5-5K advance fares

Airport fees and Taxes will be at least 1000, so then the point value is 80 paisa

It might be a policy to charge GST and then refund GST.
But beyond refund of GST, they are giving extra few paise. Thats surprising.
