Think before referring unknown persons

The following tweet is making rounds on X. It seems that recovery agents from One Card are reaching out to individuals who referred defaulters.

Many responses, especially from the so-called “CC geeks” community, express shock that referrers are being pursued by recovery agents.

While numerous people have turned X, YouTube, TF, and other platforms into venues for promoting referral links, it's crucial to remember that credit cards are significant financial tools. Your name is associated with anyone who uses your referral link, and you could be linked to any fraud, default, or problematic transactions involving them.

Stay cautious, be aware of the potential risks, and consider the consequences before seeking out a "small reward."

It always raises my eyebrow when someone is asking for credit card suggestions on TF and someone will respond "Why not consider AmEx?" and that someone will invariably slip in their AmEx referral link directly or in their TF signature. Poor Diners Club is constantly ridiculed for its "acceptance issues" while none of the AmEx referring public ever warns about its legendary acceptability issues. I remember a very popular restaurant in Pondicherri have a big board stating "AmEx cards not accepted". Almost reminded me of the British Raj! Heck...even in the US, some small stores will take a VISA or Mastercard but not AmEx, not because they don't want to but because they don't want to fork out a higher fee.
Nicely put...
(Now use my AmEx referral)

I have expressed my thoughts on @Wealth is my birth right! 's profile post

This is nothing new that our data has been shared to collection agencies by any fintech companies and companies like Airtel share our data with recovery agents as well. If you don’t pay, they have all the data with connections and ask your connections for recovery. I mean even IDFC share our data with a third-party team for verification. I have multiple examples and have seen similar concerns of some TF members with Cred Cash. The problem is much bigger than worrying about some individual's concerns on Twitter. There is no need for cancelling OneCard, we need to look for a sustainable solution to these issues. I just hope the PII protection policy goes live soon in India.

Coming to this post on Twitter, as I said it is the practice followed by many in India. It isn't harassment I would say. I mean what have you done after receiving daily spam calls, have you ever cared to raise similar concerns to TRAI? Again look at the bigger picture and fight for it. Remember net neutrality?
