Unfair Credit Card Charge: HDFC Payment Gateway and IDFC Bank (Income Tax Payment)

I recently made a large online payment of ₹10 lakh towards Advance Tax on the Income Tax website through my IDFC Vistara Credit Card using the HDFC Payment Gateway.

The issue:
  • The OTP I received was for exactly ₹10 lakh.
  • However, a few days later, I discovered an additional charge of ₹9,441 added to my original transacted amount of ₹10 lakh credit card bill.
  • This charge was a "convenience fee" levied by the HDFC Payment Gateway which they did not levy at time of transaction done.
The problem:
  • This fee was not mentioned upfront during the transaction process, SMS received and even on the page where we submit the OTP to process the payment.
  • The OTP verification was solely for the base amount of ₹10 lakh, not the total amount.
This is highly misleading and unfair. The only point I see fighting for is that as a consumer, I should have been made aware of all charges at the time of authorizing the transaction. The bank should have taken OTP for ₹10,09,441 and not only for ₹10 lakh. How can they charge fees after the transaction has been done?

I'm seeking advice on how to dispute this charge. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
