Thanks for the info, OP!

I already have one SBI Global Mastercard debit card, so I requested for a new Global RuPay virtual debit card for RuPay-specific offers, and it was generated instantly!

It's reflecting in netbanking too now under "Linked ATM/Debit cards" section.

However, when I tried to pay advanced bill of my IDFC FIRST Bank credit card in their BillDesk portal, it failed without even redirecting to the payment gateway page. No particular failure message was shown. But it worked successfully when I used it to add balance in my Amazon Pay Wallet account.

Also, I noticed that its daily limit is maximum ₹50,000. And it can also be used for International transactions and contactless transactions via NFC of phone. (But please note RuPay doesn't support NFC payments yet through apps.)

Hope this new virtual SBI debit card continues to be lifetime free.
Today, I tried to pay an advance bill of my IDFC credit card on their BillDesk portal using the newly-generated SBI RuPay virtual debit card, and the transaction was successful this time! Will see if they credit any reward points for this, and will keep you updated.

If I close the physical card after getting virtual card will my UPI continue to work? My UPI pin was generated using physical card only.
Once a UPI PIN of SBI is generated, it no longer requires the debit card. In fact, when my only SBI debit card was closed a couple of months ago, I was using UPI all the time without any troubles.

It will suddenly stop working and ask you to set pin again. It happed to me. It worked approx 18 months without debit card then stopped working.

I've noticed that SBI has indeed added reward points to my Rewardz statement when I made a credit card payment using the newly generated SBI Global Virtual RuPay debit card on IDFC FIRST Bank's BillDesk portal.

So, it's confirmed—the SBI Virtual Debit Card does earn reward points!
