Hi,
A cousin of mine who is 23-24 currently and unemployed got sbi card even though he filled the details as a student.

He has a savings account in SBI so few days back noticed a "Pre-qualified" banner in net banking profile. Proceeded through it and put "Student" in occupation field. Few days later vkyc link received, completed and then e-sign after first verification call from local head office. Next day verification from Gurgaon and the day after card was approved with limit of 30k.

It's curious because members of this community have faced rejection from same pre-qualified offer banner despite being self employed and he got approval despite being a student. Regarding savings account, he maintain MAB of 4k-5k.

I think sbi was very generous here. He owns two cards from icici, apay and coral rupay since 1-2 years with 80k limit.

Its not about employment, sbi these days considering existing cards in cibil. Since he has 2 3 cards, sbi has no problem in approving

Few months back he got a call from agent and applied that time for simplysave card. Put occupation as self-employed yet application was declined.

Has he asked reason of rejection? Might be some other factors like kyc/address

I remember it was due to some business verification. He put his family business name, they tried to verify physically and he denied.

Doesn't sbi deny card citing over leveraged reason to salaried people? So we were thinking it would most probably be denied for him, but they approved. Now we're happily surprised.

Over leverage applies not only to salaried.
I don't think he has much cards to reject on overleverage. His profile is good ajd he applied online with vkyc. No need to verify physically. So approved in a day

Anything can happen wrt cc. Even higher income ppl face rejection. ppl with lower income no income can be approved. Basic rule is that one needs to have good credit score and good relation with banks.

Having saving a/c does not guarantee a credit card of that bank. Though having savings a/c is an advantage.

Would it be stupid to apply for CB as a student? My highest limit is with HDFC 2L.
Only the inb portal has option to choose student while applying a pre-qualified offer. I haven't seen anything other than salaried or self-employed on sprint. And in inb the simplyclick was preselected for my cousin. Application could have been rejected if he had changed card selection to any higher variant. In sbi cc application one can't fool them by selecting self-employed as they often do physical verification before approving even the basic cards.

How did you get hdfc card being a student? Previous relationship with bank?

Parents opened minor account in whe I was 2. Converted to major. Got pre approved offer at 19. Got Millennia later.

I'm planning on negotiating for Prime or Pulse via offline route by leveraging SBI Wealth. Wealth Family banking customers can get Aurum paid but it's a waste of a card. I'll try negotiating C2C Prime or Pulse to get LTF. If not I'll settle for Octane or Air India Signature.
