I got the email about an update in the policy of 811 super on 28th January, so the transaction before that should be eligible for cashback but last month I got nothing for the month of January, I talked to the customer service on call regarding the same thing where I mentioned they can not impose the updated rule on the past transaction as it was done before the update and I have received the cashback for the same merchant last month. But she was just saying that you are not eligible for it as per the terms and conditions and repeated same thing after my objection to it. Considering her tone to talk which was also not professional I decided to give up. And try the other route by escalating it through e-mail and asked her about the month of February transaction which I done on canara setu as I was aware based on update canara setu was a better alternative and she told me those transactions are eligible for cashback as the MCC code was 5311.
For this month I haven't done any transaction yet because I don't know which are the options now to get cashback. If somebody knows anything please share it here.
And what you guys think about escalating the matter for month of January in which I have done the transaction using airtel.

Their email response from grievance team: terms and conditions changed on 1st January 2025.

I have replied back with evidence.

Their own email communication only on 28th January inform us that t&c has changed. Before that their promotion received in email on 17th and 21st Jan says that utilities are eligible categories with mentioning my CRN no.

Will wait for few days then approach to RBI. Will add compensation 500 each day they delay from my 1st email dated 1st March 2025.

CC bill payments don't come under utility category btw, they come under finance/debt repayments & their mcc code is supposed to be 6012.

You can collect all the proof you need but everything will be in vain if they just asked for a receipt of the transaction. 🤔

Yes I got the cashback but they did say that it was credited automatically and wasn't due to complaint.
Yes. Kotak Mahindra Bank is the worst bank to have banking relationship with. They Lie.

1. They first said that the t&c was changed on 1st January. When I confronted why did u asked me later (in email promotion) to pay utility bills to get cashback if you know that t&c changed, then they said.
2. MCC is not eligible. (For reference same MCC was eligible and I got cashback in previous month)

Either Kotak management themselves want Kotak bank to sink or their employees want to do it for them.

This is standard bullshit they write in all TnCs. But you should know when to exercise your rights bro. Just because they wrote something in the agreement, doesn't make it legal. The terms have to be enforceable and not arbitrary.

For eg. In a rent agreement I write that as a house owner I will have full right to kick off the tenant without any notice, that won't stand as it is illegal.

I need your advice regarding a concerning issue with my recent transaction. Here’s a summary of what happened:
  • Transaction Details:
    On 2nd January 2025, I purchased a silver bar on amazon.in for ₹24,214. As it was an online shopping transaction, I was supposed to receive a cashback of ₹500.
  • Issue Timeline:
    • February 2025: I noticed that the cashback wasn’t credited, so I waited for the whole February month.
    • Complaint via Kotak 811 App: I then filed a Level 1 complaint. I received a call from their team confirming that my transaction was eligible for cashback but mentioned that an error prevented it from being credited. They assured me that the issue would be forwarded to the relevant authority.
    • Follow-Up Email: With no progress, I sent an email to the nodal officer on 7th March.
    • Response Received Today:
      "With regards to your email, we regret to inform you that the (said transactions/debited Debit Card transactions) are not eligible for the 811 Super Cashback as these transactions are categorized as below which are not considered for cashback:
      • Loan repayment
      • Wallet load transactions
      • Utilities payment"
    This response is baffling since my transaction clearly does not fall into any of those categories.
  • My Concerns:
    The response seems to misclassify my transaction, and I suspect that this might be a case of fraud. I'm unsure about the appropriate next steps, and I’m also considering when it would be appropriate to escalate the matter to the RBI Ombudsman.
Questions for the Community:
  1. What further steps should I take to resolve this issue?
  2. When do you think it is the right time to approach the RBI Ombudsman?

Bank thoda hi decision le sakta hay. Decision toh uska employee(s) le raha hay. Aur wo employee(s) v human hoga ya cheater ye v toh likhna chahiye tha na. Ye unhone t&c mein likhna vul gaye honge. Av wo v correct karne wale hain ek doh din mein. RIP Kotak.

I think I am wasting my energy fighting with cheaters who deny their own communication that asked me to pay utilities to get cashback when the later said t&c changed on 1st January 2025. Its a fraud by them. So, I think I should approach RBI on that ground and should ask for a higher compensation for disturbing my peace.

Please be informed that, the cashback is only applicable to valid merchant transactions. The transaction executed by you was towards bill payment due to which it is ineligible for cashback.

Further, the changes in Super Cashback eligibility were applicable effective 1st of Jan'25.

Please note, the bank reserves the right to modify, amend, or terminate the criteria associated with its rewards program at any time, without prior notice. Such changes may include, but are not limited to, adjustments in eligibility requirements for customers or transactions, and redemption options.

They even denied my missing cashback of November stating that transaction not eligible as mentioned in terms and condition.
