Offer Fulfilled! Limit Enhancement and Upgrade Offers Rolling Out!

The offer has been fulfilled by the bank/company.
I have a salary account with HDFC and no credit card so far. Just saw emails offering Freedom card as LTF but I prefer Millenia (at least). Should I apply for this freedom and try for upgrades or wait for Millenia LTF? Any suggestions please! Also my net pay is 1.5+L per month so can it be upgraded to Preferred banking program and then expect Millenia CC LTF?

Basic Cards as Lifetime Free (LTF) May Not Be the Best Choice

Opting for basic cards as LTF might seem appealing at first, but they often become unusable because of your increased spends and changes in preferred redemption. Also, basic cards often come with limits for earning and redemption restrictions, making it inconvenient to maximize rewards and benefits in the long run.

For example, if it were 2021, the HDFC Millennia card might have been a solid choice. It remains a decent option even now, but not as an LTF card. Why? Because in reality, you probably wouldn't hold onto a basic card like Millennia for more than three years. Plus, gift voucher offered by bank itself compensate for 3 years (which is too long for this card, IMO).

Ex:
  • 2023: SBI Cashback launched and becoming popular which offers Millennia benefits + More.
  • 2024: HDFC itself introduced the Swiggy card, offering more benefits than Millennia.
Given this ever-changing market, it makes sense to upgrade or switch cards instead of holding onto a basic card that may not serve you well in the long run.

Based on Salary

Did you ever tried to apply manually without waiting for any offer? which cards they're offering to you and whats their prices?

Additionally, it’s worth checking with your branch, you might be able to get HDFC Regalia Gold as LTF premium card that you might find yourself holding onto for more than three years, despite the fact that even premium cards are facing faster devaluation these days.

Millennia or Regalia Gold? Making the Choice

If you're trying to decide between the HDFC Regalia Gold and the HDFC Millennia, do check below thread:

Your decision should be based on your spending habits and preferred redemption.

Myths about Account Upgrades for Better Cards

Contrary to some beliefs, you don't necessarily need an HDFC account to upgrade to certain cards, including the Millennia. Many users, including myself, have got the Millennia without holding an HDFC account. Additionally, your salary often opens up more credit card opportunities for you, regardless of specific bank programs. Make sure to use this advantage to access better deals and more rewarding cards.

My relative is having DCB LTF (and stuck for long years in this) along with Tata neu infinity LTF and Swiggy LTF.
His wife is getting Millennia card LTF because of banking relationship though she is already using the DCB addon card of her husband. She doesn't have any CIBIL rating.
Their total spending is not too high (max 6 lakhs in an year) Do u think getting millennia would be for any use or they can try negotiating for another card which can compliment DCB or better in some circumstances)
Can someone suggest?

They're way too many cards for 6L spends in single bank itself (considering they've other cards from other banks).

TL;DR;

If they prefer cashback - Swiggy itself is sufficient and Millennia is redundant (but for online offers it might work due to recent sale changes by HDFC).
If they prefer miles/travel booking - Regalia Gold compliment their DCB and help to get points faster for their preferred redemption.
If they prefer vouchers - Swiggy enough.

But, mostly her card will be redundant and no use if total spends 6L which is sufficient to existing cards + if any in other banks.

Great man u r posting this much text to help fellow members. Great patience

May be sometimes people want peace of mind. Paid status bothers them. Anyhow its their choice, every one has different mindsets 🙂

Problem is when people fight to get basic cards as Lifetime Free (LTF). Shortly after, when that card is no longer useful, they try to upgrade --only to find themselves fighting for LTF card again. This cycle keeps repeating because, in the past three years, none of the cards have stable. Banks frequently add or remove features, making them less and less useful.

IMO, it's better to have peace of mind with upgrade, as most banks offer the first year free or compensate with equivalent points or vouchers, allowing you to use the card for another year without hesitation.

If the card is LTF, there's a tendency to fight for an LTF upgrade too, because the mindset is, "Why go for a paid card?" But after achieving the upgrade, the bank might drop a mail about 'upcoming changes' to your credit card, and the cycle repeats. I believe only premium and super-premium cards are worth fighting for LTF status because they can only handle our changing lifestyle, increasing income, and relatively less devaluation.

Basic cards as LTF just aren’t worth it. Still, I understand that everyone has their choice, its upto them - I've wasted a lot of time earlier in this cycle myself, so I'm just sharing my opinion.

This is true in most cases, but in cases like Regalia to Regalia Gold LTF, most of the people have the former LTF and it doesn't make sense to upgrade to RG FYF if you don't need lounge access or have other cards like Atlas or Plat Travel for milestone benefits

Its premium card, so one can analyze and take decision, above points is for basic cards. Moreover, both Atlas and RG has similar benefits (if need miles transfer then atlas, direct booking/vouchers then RG but reward wise on-paper both are almost similar).

: )

IMO:

2k and above Fee - Premium cards
10k and above Fee - Super-premium cards
20k and above Fee - Ultra premium cards
Travel specific cards (like Atlas, Vistara etc.) - Premium cards

I got upgrade to Diners Privilege FYF from millennia LTF.
I am confused as I already have atlas. But at the same time I also have SBI cashback to compensate millennia.

I am also thinking to take DCP as it will open gates to diners black in future
