Hi Everyone,

I am having HDFC Infinia, Axis Magnus CC.
800+ credit score
No late payment ever.
Using credit card for 5+ years.

What could be the reason for AMEX to reject my "Platinum Travel Credit Card Application"?

I reached out to AMEX customer care to understand the reason but they didn't provide any clarity 🙁
Can someone please share info if they have faced anything similar or have any info on the same.

Similar experience, having similar profile, using many cards for more than 20 years, but similar response.

Sorry don't have much inputs to help on possible reasons since you already have great credit profile but found similar threads related to amex and sbi

I had again reached out to customer care team asking what is the specific reason as mere "not meeting internal requirement" is not enough. But only additional answer i got was it is because of CIBIL. But that is strange because my score is 800, the only thing i could think of is there may be few enquiries in last month for cards i was chasing or may be lower card utilization with high unsecured Credit card limits with multiple cards. This is first time i have been refused card having close to 17+ years of card history.

Can you all confirm that your total credit limit across all cards is not more than 1.5x to 2x of your annual income.
Have been seeing this as rejection reason for some of the cards in recent times

My combined credit limit is 35x than my salary, and Amex approved MRCC with 3x than my income recently. (2 days ago)

Yes it would be creeping close to 1.2 x, if credit card with shared limits are considered separately. @BestBanker Can you help what could be reason if only CIBIL was quoted as reason. so that after cooling off period of 90 days on reapplying same problem may not recur.

Update:
Submitted my complaint one month back in banking ombudsman asking for reason of rejection( as per RBI guidelines all banks/institutions are bound to inform exact reason of rejection), got a call from Amex to provide income documents and card approved now.

I have similar profile and also held Amex Plat reserve, but I closed it after using it for 6 months because of acceptance issues. I now applied for plat travel got rejected saying I don't fulfil their internal requirements.
