Infinia Difficulties in getting the HDFC Infinia credit card

I wanted to share my experience and seek advice regarding the challenges I've been facing in obtaining the HDFC Infinia credit card.

Here's a bit of background about my situation:
  • Initially, I didn't have any relationship with HDFC Bank - no accounts, credit cards, or loans.
  • I had the Axis Magnus credit card and was quite happy with it as both cards were at-part with each other, so I didn't consider the invite-only Infinia card.
  • When Magnus was devalued last year, I was upgraded to Magnus Burgundy and subsequently opened a Savings Max account with HDFC (Considering the 🪓💩).
  • Upgraded to Imperia: Within a week, I was upgraded to Preferred, and currently, I am an Imperia customer.
  • I was self-employed and used my latest Income Tax Return (ITR) to apply for Infinia. However, HDFC rejected it mentioning that they do not consider capital gains in the ITR, so I fell short of the eligibility. In July, I transitioned to a full-time employee, hoping my salary slips would help.
Here's what happened during the application process:
  1. Initial Application: I applied with my ITR, but it was declined because HDFC doesn't consider capital gains.
  2. Second Attempt: I then applied using my last two months' salary slips. However, the application was still declined. The reason given was that they do not have certain information about my employer.
  3. CIBIL Score: My CIBIL score is 803 as of 15th October, which should be favorable for credit applications.
Despite meeting the eligibility criteria and being an Imperia customer, I still face rejection. Has anyone else experienced similar issues with HDFC?

Any advice on how to navigate this situation or alternative ways to strengthen my application would be greatly appreciated!

honestly bro it is easier to just get a DCB and get it upgraded to Infinia instead of jumping through hoops if you don't easily meet the requirements or if the bank is being difficult.

Infinia is an invite-only card which is what makes it difficult to get.

With the recent changes and increments, it's only gotten more tedious to get one.

It won't be easy, I would suggest find a good RM or a Branch Manager or someone you know within the bank and that could possibly make the process easier.

You may try ulip route via your RM to get infinia.

The BM and RM engaged an employee who sits in their branch for credit card operations. They processed the card application and it got rejected. It seem they have not put in any efforts to get the application approved.

As a principle, I am done with the ULIPs route since 2008 and would never invest in them.
base hdfc card and then maybe upgrade it later
I thought NTB was the easiest path to get the card.

DCB acceptance is challenge I guess (based on everyone's feedback and excuse for upgrade here). I do meet the requirement but they are just trying to be difficult.

demand a fyf dcb metal with over 8L limit. book refundable flights for whatever amount you need to cross that 7.5L mark after 6 months of owning the card. Easiest route to get what you want instead of pleading to people who should be the ones pleading.

  1. My Credit limit on Axis Magnus Burgundy is 11.65, do they offer DCB Card 2 card?
  2. So to achieve the milestone of 7.5L, we can book the flights in the future and after they upgrade, we cancel all those flights?
I will talk to my RM and then escalate to BM and see if it makes any difference. The BM have given me the Locker without hassle/ investment or deposit.

I doubt they will do C2C. You probably qualify for it based on your income? Excluding the capital gains I mean.

I mean I don't know why they would object. You booked flights and hotels for a trip several months in advance, you paid the credit card bill for these flights. You realized you are up for an upgrade, so you ask for it, get it, and oh no, something urgent comes up but thankfully you booked fully refundable flights and hotels, so you refund those and somehow you just never get the chance to go to that trip again 🙁 so you then either let that money be in your credit account to use or you simply ask them to transfer this refund back to your savings account. It's just "unfortunate" what happened, that's all.

Yes, I also qualify based on the salary too.

This can be an excuse to finally to to go out and have some family time. We just keep on working and forget about what we are missing in life.
don't use your salary slips because they have already rejected those. this is a big issue and would need some effort to get around.

only do it if your limit is over 8L, this is what we have seen as the minimum required, no idea if they will bump this up along with the spends as time goes on so do it while you can.

It's easy in DCB route. I got upgrade from DCB to Infinia.
If they are reasoning about some missing company information then it seem HDFC will not approve any card for me. The RM like most of the RM's have come across this issue for the first time and have no clue.

Never trust RM. Direct send docs to Chennai. In my case I have fwded docs to Chennai and upgrade was approved. Or you can send mail to grievence.

We regret to inform that we are unable to process your upgrade form and we request you to provide a fresh upgrade form duly signed and complete in all aspects along with the requisite income documents to enable us to do the needful.
