Spoke to RM and he still says you need to maintain balance for this and can't be given on the basis of salary. In the eleigibility its clearly mentioned about the salary criteria and still they are not giving it.

Queries:
1 - My worry is even if I get it, will the downgrade it after 2-3months if I don't maintain the balance
2 - If I mange to get free locker with Imperia, will post downgrade it will be chargeable or it will remain LTF?

I don't think rm is giving correct information. get it clarified from hdfc's customer care email.

RMs are there only to sell useless products. I have heard of very rare cases where RM actually cared about the 'relationship'.

true.
HDFC branch employees are like mischievous kids who get disciplined once the headmaster (pno) comes in the classroom with a stick.
yesterday I visited the branch for mobile number change and the guy was started asking to open FD for 5k before starting the process. He said you can liquidate it whenever you want.
I was like, SBI is way way better than these guys. So much up selling.

BM is either an idiot or corrupt/greedy in this case. There's no reason for denying Imperia account status if you're getting 3L+ monthly salary credits in your HDFC Corporate account.

Send him an email with the link and ask for an explanation on why he still says otherwise, when the eligibility criteria on HDFC site is super clear.
Either he accepts his mistake and helps you with Imperia or ask him to provide a response over email and then escalate to Grievance-Redressal.

This next part is optional and strictly vengeance but I would change the branch just to piss them off, after the account gets upgraded to Imperia

When you upgrade...you will get contact details of RM and next level. RM may change since I have heard that Imperia is handled by a senior person( my RM told me 😀).
The criteria is very clear....you can ignore what current RM is saying .. just go ahead with it.
RMs will always want their clients to have more money in accounts or deposits... their promotions depends on the total money they are managing...

Been into Imperia for a year now, no change from Preferred apart from the background pic in mobile and internet banking.

The equation with banks and customers is simple nowadays, banks are flush with money, especially since US Fed has printed so much during Covid, so they do not need much more, they only care when you benefit them by helping them meet their targets by taking loans, ULIP's, Insurance Policies etc.

Not necessarily. My RM has remained the same from Classic to Preferred to Imperia. They all try to sell the same products and have now understood I'll not take any of their ULIPs and now have stopped selling

Let me clear few things out here.
My background: I do have Imperia saving account (previously salary A/C; my salary from next month will be moved to Axis).

I am very sure your RM is not up-to-date. Banks like HDFC, AXIS, CITI, KOTAK etc. have corporate relationships and provide employees of certain high profile MNCs and private companies (banks usually call such companies "Category 1/A" example Bain, BCG, Mckinsey, Deloitte, MSFT, AMZ) added perks over their usual salary criteria. I remember, I was offered Imperia banking salary with a salary of 2.X Lacs, which was lower than 3Lacs requirement and LTF DCB. Banks maintain relationships with such companies because they know employees of such companies have potential to make more money, and with time bank will make money from such employees by upselling them services.

I am assuming that you are making a monthly salary (net) of 3Lacs+ which gets credited to your account. Then simply go to any nearby HDFC branch and ask the employee to introduce you to any RM who deals with Preferred or Imperia banking (most small branches have the same guy running both categories). Ask him/her to upgrade you to Imperia. They'll see your net salary credit and will do it immediately.

About your two questions:

1) AFAIK No bank proactively downgrades a customer for not maintain their minimum balance requirement. The system is designed such, that if you miss one quarter, you'll still be give additional quarter to bring your AQB back up. Failing to do so may lead to downgrade. Again this is all based on discussion with my RM. I have not faced it personally as my balance have been maintained.
2) If your Imperia status is downgraded - you'll immediately be charged annual charges for the locker. I believe (it should be pro-rata but maybe they will still go ahead and charge you for the entire year)

Hope this was helpful.

Regards,
