HDFC Millennia DC: Smartbuy 5% + 5% + 2.5%

desiviru

TF Legend
This post is regarding earning 12.5% on Smartbuy using HDFC Millenia. There is nothing new in this but many of us are missing higher CB on low spend.

We all know that Millennia DC has max. cap of Rs.400 as 5% cashback so we mostly use it for 16000 CC Payment or some use it for wallet load of 40K.

The thing I analyzed today was, my friend in Dec- 2023 used his Millennia DC on smartbuy for Rs.5000 for flipkart voucher only and nowhere else. When I checked his rewards, it were 5% smartbuy cashback offer (upto Rs.1000/month) for HDFC cards i.e Rs.250 were credited in April 2024, 5% Millennia DC specific for txn on Smartbuy/Payzapp i.e as per TnC and also 2.5% as online usage. Total 375 was credited to him. Max. is 400.

With Millennia CC it was confirmed since years that smartbuy txns were giving 5% cashback + 1% online spend so total 6% but same is with Millennia DC also.

So next time when you buy A gift card from smartbuy worth Rs. 5340 will fetch you- Rs.267+133.50 = Rs. 400 (50 paisa 😆 will not be given as 400 is max limit). The smartbuy cashback of 5340*5/100= 267 will be extra and come under 1000 cashback category.

Main point missed was the 5% debit card specific cashback and 2.5% online and 1% offline/wallet load, all have a cumulative limit of max. 400. So most of us missed this thing as were spending more than 8000-16000 every month.

Solution
If it is 8.96%, then only I want to buy AGV 5000 every month using millennia DC; otherwise, it's a loss for me. The problem is I have to wait 90 days to verify. Thats why asking.
6.46% is guaranteed. Rest questionable now as some people told they didn't get it (extra 2.5%). I can't verify myself these days as paying 16K bills.
Another thing that confused me is... in Payzapp shop they are providing 3% for DC (all DC right?) but it was written 5% here https://www.hdfcbank.com/personal/pay/cards/millennia-cards/millennia-debit-card (ur given link). I can see the Payzapp page. It is clearly mentioned as 3%, and the change (5% to 3%) was possibly done 2-3 months back.
When you purchase APayV or any other voucher...
Update: Received Millennia Specific cashback of Rs.400 (on Brother's Millennia DC)) for Smartbuy Txn done in April for Rs.8500. Can't figure it out for 5%+2.5% as txn was way above Rs.5340. The smartbuy cashback of Rs. 425 was credited in Promotional cashback in June itself. From May onwards on brother's card CC bill payment of Rs.16000+has been done on SBI Unipay. Lets see whether it is rewarded with 400 or not. Will let everyone know.

Bhai I have one earnest request to any member who has understood these calculations. Please write one scenario in which minimum to be spent on payzapp/smartbuy using millenia both cc and dc separately to get maximum benefit out of it plus smartbuy 5% which is also separate. Bhaiyo ek baar ki mehnat hai kar do. Jese cc bill ka pta hai 16k pe 2.5% 400 ho rha hai.
Iska bhi clear kar do.

Millennia Debit Card:

Key features:-

  • Get up to ₹4800 CashBack* every year
  • 5% CashBack points on shopping via PayZapp and SmartBuy
  • 2.5% CashBack points on all online Spends
  • 1% CashBack points on all offline spends and Wallet reloads.
  • Maximum cumulative cashback for 5%/2.5%/1% is Rs.400/month.
Smartbuy cashback (5%) is different from all key features mentioned above in bulleted Pt. 1 to 4 with maxium monthly cashback of Rs.1000 and applicable for using any HDFC Debit/Credit card except Infinia / DCB which has more reward point system. More details at link,

Scenario 1: Mr. X (Not Elon Musk of X) transacted on Smartbuy using Millennia Debit card for purchasing Flipkart voucher worth Rs.5000.

Now he is eleigible for following cashback:

1. 5% (max.1000) cashback from Smartbuy (will be posted under Promotional Cashback). So 5000*5/100 = Rs.250.

2. 5% cashback (under Pt.2 for millenia key feature) + 2.5% cashback under all online spendings. So Rs.250 + Rs.125 = Rs.375.

Total cashback= Rs. 625 or 12.5%.

Mr.X also made Txn on online website for Rs.2000 in same month after this. Total cashback = Rs.25 only as out of 400 he already got 375 for smartbuy txn under Millennia specific cashback category.

Mr. X made another txn at smartbuy after this for Rs.10000. All he will get is Rs.500 cashback under promotional points to be credited in 60-90 days.

So at smartbuy you can do txn of Rs.20000 for complete benefit of Rs.1000 and for same you will get Rs.400 Millennia DC specific also. Total= Rs.1400. But if you necessity is Rs.400 only, you can either pay Rs.16000 CC bill at SBI Unipay or HDFC BillPay or at smartbuy Rs.5340 txn only for purchasing voucher.

Now if you had transacted via Payzapp Shop, your cashback will be 3% as Payzapp specific posted as Payzapp points. 5% from smartbuy will come directly to card cashback under promotional cashback section. I don't know whether BillPay or recharge at Payzapp via Millennia DC fetch 2.5% or 5% or even no cashback. Never used on Payzapp till yet.

If Mr.X used Millennia CC for same transactions:

1. 5% smartbuy cashback (max. 1000)= Rs.250 (will be posted as statement credit within 3 days of txn).

2. 1% online cashback i.e Rs.50 (will be posted as cashpoints between 1-3 of every next month and available for redememption when next statement generates).

Total Cashback- Rs.300 (6% of total amount)

P.S (For Amazon Pay vouchers 2.95% extra is charged as conv. fee by smartbuy while Amazon shopping voucher fetches complete 5%+5%+2.5%).

* Millennia Credit Card has no specific cashback for usage on Smartbuy or Payzapp. It counts txn on both under 1% category. As Fund load via CC will attract 1.5%+18% GST from Aug 1, Millennia CC usage on Payzapp wallet is done and dusted.

Millennia CC Key Features

  • 5% Cashback on Amazon, BookMyShow, Cult.fit, Flipkart, Myntra, Sony LIV, Swiggy, Tata CLiQ, Uber and Zomato
  • 1% cashback on all other spends (except Fuel) including EMI & Wallet transactions
  • ₹1000 worth gift vouchers on spends of ₹1,00,000 and above in each calendar quarter
  • Upto 20% discount on partner restaurants via Swiggy Dineout
As you can see only on 10 specific website Millennia CC provides 5% cashback. So Smartbuy/Payzapp are not included. Usage of Millennia CC fetch 5% cashback from Smartbuy under other credit card category upto Rs.1000 max.

Example: Mr. Y transacted for Rs.20000 on smartbuy using Millennia CC.

Following Cashback will be provide.

1. 5% cashback from smartbuy = Rs.1000 (max. limit reached for Smartbuy cashback with this txn)

2. 1% cashpoints = Rs. 200.

Now he transacted cumulatively on Amazon, BookMyShow, Cult.fit, Flipkart, Myntra, Sony LIV, Swiggy, Tata CLiQ, Uber and Zomato for Rs.20000. All he will get is Rs. 1000 under 5% category.

So 5% cashback from Smartbuy upto Rs.1000, 5% on 10 specific websites/apps upto Rs.1000 and 1% online usage cashback upto Rs.1000 per month = Rs.3000 total.

No Govt related txn. will fetch cashback under 1% cactegory or even MCC 4900 Utility with Millennia CC.

Agar ab bhi confusion hai toh credit card band karwa ke rehab center chale jayo mere bhayiyo.

Yahi chahiye tha bhai. Thanks a lot.

The thing with Millennia DC is that cashback is credited after 3 months, you'll have to wait 3 months to confirm all the scenarios.

Downside is that you can only redeem cashback in the multiples of 400, if in any month you fall short the entire cashback will get stuck until you do some calculation and transact for the exact amount to complete 400.

Yeah, that's the downside of Millennia DC over Platinum which although provides less i.e 1% only and no scope of 5% etc. besides smartbuy but reward points are credited within 2-7 days. The timeline for Millennia DC should be reduced by HDFC to 30 days or points should be posted for txn between 1-30/31 of month between 1-7 of next month. Anyways I am happy with Millennia CC with which timeline is 30 days only for cashpoints. So txn done on first day of Statement allows you to reedem in next 30 days.

Not many have 75000 CC bills to pay every month. But yeah 1000 SB+ 750 on CC Billpay is max. with platinum. I am upgraded to Preferred banking by HDFC last month and now can move to platinum card with no annual charges but still not upgrading and keeping Millennia DC. The only plus Platinum has is cashback is quick.

Can anyone confirm if I upgrade my card this month to Platinum and Millennia closes, the cashback for May and June month will be given or not as Millennia specific column will be gone from cashback section at netbanking? My own understanding says, it will not be provided.

It'll be provided and the specific column will remain even after that

Does Platinum have 5 + 5 from smartbuy? If I use 100rs, will I get 5 from Card's criteria and 5 from smartbuy 5x/5%?
Can I use payzapp integrated smartbuy without applying any coupon for this, or should I use the website smartbuy just in case?

Agar ab bhi confusion hai toh credit card band karwa ke rehab center chale jayo mere bhayiyo.
there is a little point worth mentioning in millennia credit card that is , smartbuy cashback is credit back to the statement directly, where as other cashback's of card will come under redemntion segment which can be redeemed with minimum 500Rs.

Que. are both cashbacks credit in a similar way in case of millenia debit card?

Already mentioned. I think you didn't read the post thoroughly. Not your fault as it is one of the longest post ever posted here. 🤣
