Lets talk about RuPay NCMC Debit/Prepaid Card/ RuPay Metro Card/ RuPay Transit Card and share your experience and help others:

Hi, NPCI now allow Banks, Metros, Buses to accept RuPay NCMC debit and NCMC Prepaid cards.

Many people are asking me how to activate RuPay NCMC debit card ? How to load money ? How to use etc.

What is RuPay NCMC Card ?

National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) is Transit Card/ Metro Card is India. Single Card use on any Metros, Buses, Toll, Parking, Railway, Para Transit & Retail shopping etc.

You will get offline Wallet based contactless Payments option. Load Money on your RuPay NCMC Offline Wallet and use any Metro AFC gates in India. Same like any Metro Cards in India. Some Indian buses are also start accepting RuPay NCMC cards.

How to activate RuPay NCMC Card ?

You RuPay NCMC Card activate through Metro counter and Metro staff will help you to activate your NCMC card feature.

How to load money on my RuPay NCMC Card Wallet ?

You can load money from Metro counters or Online from your bank Internet banking or Mobile banking app.

How to Use ?

Just Tab on entry AFC gate and exist time tab on exist AFC gate.

What is the limit for my offline RuPay NCMC wallet transaction ?

Well, limit is decided by the banks, i shared here Bank of Baroda RuPay NCMC debit card offline wallet transaction limit -

Note - The limit may change in the future.

• Maximum per transaction limit for money add transaction - Rs. 500.
• Maximum daily limit for money add transaction - Rs. 2000.
• No. of money add transactions allowed per day - 4.
• Maximum balance in card (stored value) at any point - Rs. 2000.
• Max per transaction limit for card for offline purchase - Rs. 200 (retail payments) & Rs. 2,000 (transit payments).
• Maximum daily limit for card for no. of offline purchase transactions - 20.

Here Delhi Metro Offer 10% off on RuPay NCMC Card payment during peak hours and 20% off on non-peak hours.

Last time i heard Delhi Metro airport expressline accept RuPay NCMC Cards but now I see it is expanding to other Delhi Metro stations as well.

Bengaluru Metro now supports all banks NCMC RuPay Debit cards, so there is no need to buy a new card to travel. Today I activated my SBI NCMC debit card service creation at the metro counter and loaded 200 Rs.

I travel by metro regularly in Bangalore, and today I checked at the Banashankari customer service counter if there was any possibility to link my existing SBI Rupay NCMC debit card. The person checked, created the service and loaded the amount.

Mumbai BEST buses also accept RuPay NCMC Cards and they also issue their own Chalo BEST NCMC Card by yes bank but you can also use other RuPay NCMC Cards as well.

Airtel RuPay NCMC Card launched for Hyderabad metro.

I ordered two NCMC cards last week. One is AU Haryana Roadways and the other is Airtel. Despite paying around 360 for each one, including a 150 delivery charge, neither has even been shipped. I don’t know why they can’t send them in a day or two like normal credit and debit cards. It was a mistake in hindsight as I later saw that you can immediately get the Airtel card from any Delhi Metro station from Airtel kiosks for just Rs50! Now I have to wait for weeks and hope they get delivered.
I don’t understand the need for this weird system. Recently I have travelled extensively on metros and buses in London, Paris, Warsaw, San Francisco, Munich etc and you can simply tap ANY credit or debit card and the amount is charged to it. In London, I used my Infinia and IDFC Wealth and the system has a cap of a maximum charge of 8.75 pounds per day. So it automatically tracks the card and bills you at midnight. If you used the metro and the bus 10 times, instead of charging 20 or 30 pounds, it would simply charge 8.75. No need to get any card. You can tap your phone or watch via Apple Pay or Samsung Pay as well.
Why can’t the metro systems in India simply accept regular cards? It was supposedly started on Delhi Metro Airport Express Line but it never works.

Yes, but the metro systems should install card readers and simply charge the debit or credit card. It could be enabled at least on some gates at each station. Like at least one fare gate at each exit.

P.S: Rupay Network Cards will be likely available to add on G-Pay later this year. Hope, all cards (CC, DC & Pre-paid) of major banks will be eligible to get added.

Hope, we will be able to use our NFC enabled phone's TPAP on AFC gate as NCMC when bank will implement NPCI's Circular's guidelines seriously.

couple of reasons:

1. MDR
2. tap n pay brings its own problems, which they dont want to deal with.

the current system works well enough for them, they dont see any burning reason to bring-in the debit card network.

You don't have any Rupay cards? almost all of them support metro systems in-built.

I don’t think so. None of my Rupay cards work and from what I have read, most aren’t usable. There needs to be a separate wallet section enabled on the card.

Now RuPay NCMC card holders can update balance to card chip through his/her NFC-enabled mobile phone handset.

No need to do tap on Transit Terminal Device at Metro or at bus conductor's terminal device.

Don't compare India with London/UK.

India was not always an independent country.

India envisioned the NCMC (National Common Mobility Card) in 2006, but Visa and Mastercard refused to support it at that time.

Later, the RuPay card NCMC project started in 2016.

At that time, it was also realized that the AFC (Automatic Fare Collection) gates were from Western countries.

If Western countries imposed sanctions on India, our metro system would come to a halt.

India developed its own AFC system while RuPay was working on the NCMC in the background.

Now that all systems are ready, the problem is:

Replacing all existing metro AFC gates is costing crores of rupees.

On the other hand, it’s also taking time for all banks to go live on the NCMC system.

Five years ago, RuPay started the Tap & Pay project with Google Pay, which was completed last month.

Another thing is that India adopted offline wallet metro payments like China, Japan, etc., because most people here travel by metro, bus, and train.

During rush hours, online contactless payments cannot handle the load.

For the NCMC, NPCI has organized several hackathons and ideathons to find solutions to all the problems and challenges.

I believe that all NCMC-related problems in India should be resolved by 2030.

Always remember: "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now."

I don't know how it works, but YES Bank announced this with Chalo NCMC RuPay card last month.

Then I saw a video on LinkedIn that Bank of Baroda (BOB) also made an announcement.

And just 2-4 days ago, I read somewhere that SBI has also gone live with it.

Chalo App had demonstrated this feature at the GFF 2024 in partnership with CC Avenue. Once you perform an online recharge for the transit wallet balance, you just hold the NCMC card to the back of your phone and use the balance update feature in the respective app if your mobile has NFC feature and the balance will get written to your card chip in the same way as it would at the metro station kiosk. It saves you the effort of going to the metro counter for this step.
