Millennia Problem with 5% Cashback for Uber on HDFC Millennia Card. Check your statements!

Hi folks,

Past month, I noticed an incorrect amount of cashback was credited as reward points for my HDFC Millennia card. Upon seeking further clarification from HDFC support for the calculation of reward points, I noticed all the transactions done on Uber app had been accounted for 1% cashback instead of the 5% mentioned on the Millennia card website.

Upon seeking further clarification from them, they mentioned this as a reply:
We wish to clarify that the 5% CashPoints on Uber is eligible for travel/commute related spends only and the Uber transactions carried out through the MCC code of 4121 (as defined by card networks Visa, MasterCard, RuPay and Diners) will only be considered for 5% Cash Points."
This does not make sense as all of these transactions were done for the travel/commute category.

They haven't gotten back to me yet but, has anyone else faced this issue? Is there a way to resolve this? And, iff you're a Millennia user, check your statements, those Uber transactions may have not been recorded for 5% cashback.

I have faced this issue and also posted earlier on some other Millennia thread. I too had reached out to HDFC CC and got the same response.

It basically depends on the MCC being reported by Uber/Visa/Mastercard to card issuer and it seems it is not 4121 required to get the 5% cashback. Their TnC clearly states that 5% cashback on Uber is dependent on the MCC being received!

Unfortunately it ends up giving only 1% cashback instead of 5%.

I sent a follow-up email requesting them to explain what I, as a consumer, need to do to get that CB as 5% instead of 1% to which they replied they're doing 2 things.
1. They're escalating this to their internal team and getting this checked
2. They gave me additional cashback points that I would have gotten if the transactions were considered 5% instead of 1%.

Do share the updates, will be very useful.

How did you manage to get hold of this kind of cashback against each transaction?

How did you get the statement details like that. For me in the statement it will show in the bottom for 5% how much cash points i got and for 1% how many points i got.

A bit off topic : dont you guys face ride cancellations due to payment via cc/gv? (I do a lot, in delhi)

Occasionally yes… in Bangalore. However, last few months I've started to use Uber wallet (5% CB on wallet load from hubble) and for some reason the Uber cash based payment mode shows as cash to the drivers and they only get to know it's Uber cash after the ride is completed 👀

As I said, they credited the additional cashback I would have gotten from Uber related transactions.
I should have been more specific in my post...i was actually referring to your following point -

"1. They're escalating this to their internal team and getting this checked"

Did they get back on what the issue was and how they are going to resolve it? Any system corrections to resolve this would be helpful for all of us!
