My brother wants to open account in SBI
We come account insta plus savings account in which vkyc is available

I want to know can we make it zero charges account like kotak 811 by not opting for physical debit card ( using virtual debit card ) and sms alert facility

Is this possible in SBI

Hi, I have the same query as the OP and I'm reviving this thread again.

I want to open this SBI Insta Plus account and I have no use for a debit card - so I don't want it and don't want to pay the charges associated with it. I only need a virtual debit card to activate UPI and use it.

So, when I open the account do I get a virtual card first automatically or do I get only the physical card? How do I close the physical card and apply for a virtual card? Yono? - Would be great if someone can post screenshots on applying for the virtual card
Until I read this, I didn't know that we can close debit cards.

Based on the reply, I will take my final decision on starting the online application process. Please help me

Initially you will not get virtual debit card, you have take physical debit card .
Physical debit card is first year free , after few days you can hotlist physical debit card and issue virtual debit card which is free for lifetime.

Hello all, I'm once again reviving this thread.
So I tried applying for the Insta Plus account today in the Yono app. After updating my address, it asked for my PAN. I entered my correct PAN number and in the next screen, I got a pop-up saying "user seems to be having some existing relationship with the bank". I had a SB account with SBI like 10 years ago when I was a school kid. I also closed that account promptly back then by submitting a form in my branch. Is it possible that this "closed" account is causing this issue? I don't have any details regarding that account with me like account no or passbook, etc., as it was like 10 years ago.
Please help on what I need to do now? I'm living in a different city than my home city, so I can't visit that home branch immediately.

Should I forget about SBI Insta Plus and look for other alternative zero balance accounts? Is the IndusInd Delite good? Is there any frequent account freezing issue? Is the initial funding 10k now? (I already have Kotak 811)

Since you had an account with SBI, you cannot open account online as you have an existing CIF with the bank.

Open new account via your nearest branch.

You can check BoB Lite as an option

I only want a virtual debit card to be able to use UPI, I have no use for a debit card otherwise as I can use my existing debit card from my salary account for cash withdrawals.

Any other options? Thoughts on IndusInd Delite?

Hey bro, just a minor doubt in the Bob Lite application form. I dunno what to choose here as none of the options fit me, there is no "Other" option as well. Any suggestions?

Choose anything, does not matter.

Just remember what you chose as they may ask during kyc

Hi! Sorry for reviving this thread!

I have recently (vkyc completed on 18th July) opened SBI Insta Plus account online through video kyc. I was waiting for the usernames and password but ultimately followed the forgot usernames method like @praful47 said.

As of now, I have virtual card activated and also physical debit card is showing in YONO. I also activated UPI and deposited only 1 rupee. lol!

Now, my only concern is about debit transactions. Will it be available itself or I have to visit branch to activate debit or money withdrawal? SMS says that document rescrutiny may take up to 5 days though.

Any advice is appreciated @praful47 @PANK @Das.N
