SBI Unipay - Transaction failed - Missed due date for HDFC CC - CIBIL Impacted

I paid HDFC CC outstanding amount via SBI Unipay. Initially it showed as if the payment was successful. But later after couple of days, the payment got failed and status changed in Unipay portal to transaction failed & I missed the due date. Later SBI has reversed the transaction and credited back the amount.

Due to this my Cerdit Score has dropped big time. It is currently 685. Is there any way that I can reach out to the bank and request for reveral of this delayed payment reporting? I hold Imperia account with HDFC and the RM and Customer care reps are consused and are not able to give a concrete answer.

I was having a plan of getting new house loan in the next few months and this Credit Score hit can have a sever impact on my housing plans and hence need to get it reversed badly. I am fine with the penality and other charges but it is the credit score that hurts me a lot. Is there anything that I can do here to get my credit score fixed across all the agencies? How can I take it up with HDFC bank / Credit agencies / SBI Unipay?

Bhai, you should definitely take action here. Here's a step-by-step plan:

1. Contact SBI Unipay First:
Reach out to SBI Unipay and get a detailed statement or acknowledgment regarding the failed transaction. Ask them to provide a formal letter or email confirming their system's failure caused the issue and the timeline of reversal. This will serve as evidence.
This gives me some clarity. Thanks for your input and for trying to help me in getting this fixed..

Problem with BBPS is even if it is settled first it can be reversed and taken back by SBI. Then HDFC send SMS that payment for so amt. was reversed.

These Unipay bugs can be so unnerving!

A couple of cycles back I paid 4 CCs through Unipay. All 4 went through smoothly, -- amounts were debited from my DC account, and I saved the corresponding "successful" payment receipts from Unipay. Shortly, received payment confirmation messages from the 4 CC accounts too. So everything was fine, right?

The funny thing was, a few minutes later Unipay showed that 3 out of 4 payments had "failed"! I downloaded the "failure" receipts too. So now I had 3 pairs of both "successful" and "failure" receipts for the same payments!

Thankfully, all bills were actually paid, and were reflected in the next statements.

But how can one be absolutely sure that "successful" Unipay payments won't be reversed after a few days owing to some bug?!

There was bug where SBI Unipay didn't debit any payment from payer account/DC but credited to beneficiary i.e. credit card.

So OP utilised this trick 🤣 which he didn't mention in main post & now SBI reversed all payments from credit card for which OP never paid.

Now tell what's strong case here?
Absolutery agree.

I understand people looting and using exploits but why not make a 2nd payment just to be safe, if the trick works you get extra credit in CC if not..well your Credit History is safe. OP paid the stupid tax and with interest.

Unless you are looting direct cash, banks will always be able to reverse the payment at least in a highly regulated Indian baking system.

Jai Hind, Jai Bharat, Jai RBI.

A standard procedure is to avoid being LAZY and check the UNBILLED transactions of your CC app once the payment gets through.

Even though most transactions via BBPS are settled instantly, there are occasions when the delay happens. Even 15 minutes to 30 minutes delay are normal. We can't keep checking the app Indefinitely that may only spike the BP. 🤪

My schedule is to have a recurring reminder to pay the due appr X days before the due date and then another (repeating) reminder (on the due date) to check the CC app for the settlement. Been following this even before BBPS too. In this way, we also give enough time for any technical delays. If the settlement is done before the due date, I get SMS and/or email (from the CC bank) and then i simply delete the upcoming calendar entry.

Dealing with a calendar app is much easier and less time consuming than dealing a bank app these days. Also a calendar app is more trustable (with less failure rate) than a third-party reminder app like CRED.

I also use unipay very much. Have happened with me that outstanding in cc have cleared but unipay later on shows failed but was actually cleared. Very weird.

Just curious - if we get confirmation message from the cc bank then no matter the status on unipay the bill should be cleared technically?

Yes, it happens and let me clear you why it is so. This is a bug with SMS server of SBI Unipay.

I always enter my email and it instantly or in some cases 30 mins later sends email with successful thing but with SMS if it delays due to technical reasons sends SMS that your txn has failed. It occurs due to timeout. Whenever transaction happens, SMS server is designed to send SMS in max. 3 mins after transaction. If there is delay more than that it assumes txn has not gone through and send failure SMS. This is issue of entry reconcilation at SMS server. Being worked for tech firms I know how things go around. This all happens because of server delays between debiting bank, receiving bank and payment processor. At end of every hour it reconciles and settles down everything.

So rely on email rather than what SMS says. Most of time I don't even get SMS confirmation but email always comes.

I too in past received failure SMS but waited if txn gets reversed and it didn't.

Definitely New Fear Unlocked!!!!!

Once cibil hit might hard to revert that

banks consider late payment charges revert- in some cases
third party apps payment we need to consider 2-3days early payment

RBI allows 3days grace period aswell

Whenever a client comes to you, do you assume s/he is innocent ?

I am not a lawyer but these days online payments are like mangoes of a farm. People steal it when the fence is broken and when the owner catches them in act, they play victimcard.

@pothi Which calendar app is reliable on android?

Obviously, the one and only Google cal. That said, any cal app should work well. As I am privacy conscious, I use Proton cal app, along with Google cal app. Half of my home screen is usually filled with either Proton calendar widget or Google calendar widget, depending on the phone I use. This gives me an overview of what to do or what's coming next. Once we start using (any) calendar app, it is hard to get out of it.
