Ha ha. You only told the trick in your first post.
1. All utility bill payments are an eligible category.
2. Smartpay utility bill payments under BBPS have the same (eligible) MCC tagged for all kinds of bill auto-payment (including CC bill payment, along with telecom, power, gas, etc.).
3. If you pay manually as a cc bill, then they specifically tag a different code as they easily identify that it's a cc bill (as they mentioned, cc bill payment is not eligible), not in the case of smart pay.
4. Even if you pay by your intervention (normally applicable above a threshold) in smart pay, it will be tagged as auto-payment. But there is a risk, so avoid that. The bill should be enrolled as an auto-debit biller.

This is all I can say. You only helped us discover this. Now, have you got confused yourself?

Actually when I started the thread, was wondering that reward points have stopped on CC bill payment. I had not received it in several months in last year.
Started getting again in this year.
So now all Platinum cards get the 1%.
Your point 3 and 4 worth noting.

After this we need to see if the reward points are given. Its an experiment.

Yeah, last time I registered my water bill CC option wasn't there, prolly last year.

Do not worry too much. HDFC is generous.
There are much more significant loopholes/glitches that exist. This is nothing.
Use your money as it's a cashback (ratio 1:1). Just ensure that you are not making false payments to exploit the glitch.

Yes. Do delete cc biller and re-register. This would help clear out possibility of whether it is for new Speciale Gold with new platinum cards or all Speciale Gold accounts.

I manually paid a small amount yesterday after deleting and re-adding biller, then setting autopay(Smartpay enabled) for SBI CC but the merchant name came to be CCBBPSNO, so no reward points

don't take platinum now
they already devalued by introducing new platinum series cards
they may also devalue the current cards at any time.

if u already have okay, otherwise millennia is best
if you any other family member then take millennia on their name so 800 cb

Dont try tomorrow. It may not go give reward points.

What we have understood till now to get reward points on Platinum cards:

1. While registering CC Biller 'SmartPay Enabled' should be mentioned there.
2. Bill generated should get registered in the 'Scheduled'.
3. Prefer to have it paid on auto mode. If paying manually by pressing button, then it should be just a couple of days before auto pay is scheduled.
4. Amount of bill generated and paid should match. During payment it would not ask for OTP.
5. The merchant name showing in statement would be - DCSI-BBPSBILLPAY
