amex platinum charge upgrade ? will the previous card be closed

Hi

I have MRCC card , i am getting offer for upgrade to amex plat charge card with 1.5 lakh points

-> If i take this upgrade , will my MRCC be closed ? i want to keep my MRCC - thats why asking for this.
-> also , if i close my amex platinum charge by next year - will i lost my points if i have not used it ?

please let me know

Yes. MRCC will be closed. If you close Platinum Charge and do not have any other Amex then your points will be gone. But if you keep any other Amex they will be fine, as all points are pooled.

Put for upgrade request, bank will call you and ask your interest and say about your previous card status and you can ask them and they will say. Then decide

What I have seen so far.. Amex upgrades work as:
1. If you hold 3 cards: The one you are upgrading from will be gone, irrespective of charge or credit card. This is how few of the folks ended up with 1 credit and 2 charge cards.
2. If you hold 2 cards: Upgrade from Platinum Travel doesn't affect the status of the existing card whereas an upgrade from Gold Charge or MRCC results in the account closure/transfer to Plat Charge. You can speak to the customer support and keep MRCC alive but nothing could be done for Gold Charge.
Came across a case on this forum where Gold Charge was active even after upgrade to Plat Charge resulting in 4 cards. Can't comment on the authenticity of the claim though.

I believe you might be able to apply immediately after MRCC Closure. Since this was a pre-approved upgrade and not an application by you. Yes, you can apply again.

In American express you can apply for a new card immediately after you get approved for any card.
there is no waiting period or cool off period

But if your application is rejected, you have to wait for 6 months for applying again for any card

You get the choice - if you want to keep both cards, you can.

If you want to close the MRCC card and get Plat Charge, that works too. 🙂
