New Charge card offer comes free with new drsel's arguments and hate against AmEx.

As always, no card is perfect for everyone! Do your own math and get the one you like! 🙂
In my opinion, during the first year, earning 150,000 Membership Rewards (MR) points can be highly valuable if redeemed for stays at Marriott or Taj properties, as these offer exceptional experiences. For a typical family taking 3-5 trips a year, these properties might not always be available in every destination, requiring careful trip planning to align with their locations. From the second year onward, the retention benefits—if you spend ₹20 lakh—cover only half of the renewal fee, making it less appealing.

Alternatively, one could consider closing the card and applying for a new one to maximize benefits. Many forums only highlight Marriott Bonvoy redemptions, but it is worth noting that India has a wide range of properties beyond Marriott, such as Hilton. For example, in Kerala, particularly Trivandrum, only Hilton properties may be available, with no Marriott or Taj options. Additionally, the conversion rate from Amex points to Hilton Honors has declined from 1:2 to 1:0.9, further limiting value. A more balanced approach should consider the broader range of properties and redemption opportunities to maximize flexibility and benefits.

By spending ₹6.4 lakh annually across the Amex MRCC and Amex Travel cards, I can earn approximately 72,000+ Membership Rewards (MR) points per year. For larger purchases, such as gold or travel bookings, I use the Amex Travel card to achieve the milestone of 40,000 MR points, along with an additional 8,000 MR points for regular spending of ₹4 lakh.
For monthly expenses like insurance payments and grocery shopping, I use the MRCC card. With multiple insurance payments and regular grocery purchases, I can trigger the ₹1,500 spend across 4 transactions to earn 1,000 MR points multiple times a year. Additionally, I also reach the ₹20,000 spend milestone, earning 2,000+ MR points. Overall, this strategy allows me to accumulate 72,000+ MR points annually, along with a ₹10,000 Taj voucher.
However, this approach depends on individual spending patterns. In my case, it aligns well with my regular expenses and milestones, enabling me to maximize the rewards effectively.

Hey, that is a false accusation.
I don't hate Amex, I never did.
But now, I started to love the Amex Trifecta.
I just got 2 Amex cards in the last 4 days, one after another.

Amex points and Marriott points can be bought and sold @50 paisa.
Gold charge gives insanely high returns @13.33%

I highly recommend Amex Trifecta, but I am not so sure about Platinum charge card, to be honest.
77880 for 1.5 lac points and Amex lounge access. It's good only for non spend benefits

Amex PC has always been a lifestyle card more than beneficial card. There are guys out there who max out the potential on intangible benefits.

Hi. Did you upgrade from Gold Charge.. And what happened to the card post upgrade? Migrated to Platinum Charge or still active?
If your card upgrades from Gold Charge to Plat Charge your Gold charge gets closed and only Plat Charge lies. Even Plat Charge number remains same as Gold Charge.

But if you upgrade from normal CCs to Plat Charge both cards remain active.

Yup.. This I am aware of. Just curious to know how it went in your case after seeing few anomalies here and there. Good Morning btw 😁

The link in the email didn’t work for me (link broken error). Called customer care - got custom new link over a separate email (subject: based on our communication today) with assurances that this new link will work as an upgrade with the said offer of 150k MR points or hotel vouchers and that I will have to call customer care once card is approved for choosing option.
Today card is approved. Called CC and they told me the card that is approved is new card not an upgrade so I am not eligible.
Any update on this?

They refused to honour the points. Said it’s a standard application but “we acknowledge it’s our mistake and our CC gave you the wrong link and it wrongly said “Amex plat charge upgrade link” but we will not do anything as the vouchers more than compensate for the fees”. I said this amounts to misspelling and cheating. They said “May be! You can go to ombudsman and see what they have to say. We can’t help you”

A highly fake accented “senior supervisor” eventually hung up saying above. It was an extremely unpleasant 45 mins conversation.

Completely unethical and unacceptable to say the least. What are you planning to do with it now.. taking the matter to the ombudsman or getting rid of the card altogether?

Today an amex executive called regarding the upgrade offer and left a voicemail as I was unavailable. She also sent me an email with details of the upgrade and links to both joining benefits. I have not yet applied for the upgrade though.
