Amex Sending Platinum Charge Upgrade offer for JAN 2025 - 150000 MR Points

I don't understand how holding a particular credit card shows status. I feel it is a huge gimmick to portray Amex Plat Charge to be a status symbol. I don't think the cashier is going to bow down or salute you when you give it to them to swipe.
I was just like this, who cares and who sees also what's the point of customising to any card online and it's just money spent from your pocket? but now I am feeling the heat for status symbols, the people I go out with, who have only centurion and plat charge, chase reserve, Cottus, royale and what not card even top-of-the-line cards in the world, to join and move with then for party and business meet outside its been observed and they also observe and talk a lot about these cards.

That's not status symbol, it's show off and peer pressure. The real ones don't care.

Let me tell you a small incident.. Few months back I met 2 guys at Heathrow Centurion. One of them had both Centurion and Coutts Silk and the other had Plat Charge. First one was unhappy with mediocre benefits of Coutts Silk and high fee of Centurion. The second guy had ignored an upgrade offer to Centurion twice and opted for HSBC Private instead of Coutts. The only reason behind them being with Amex/Coutts was the ease of running their business on those cards.

Most UHNIs use Amex and other cards as an effective financial tool for their lifestyle than a status symbol. If the Platinum charge or Centurion or any other card makes you think twice about the value you are going to get, its probably not for you and you are not missing anything.

P.S. I'll grab Axis Primus in a heartbeat the day I get an offer from Axis just for the value it offers rather than going for a Centurion for its brand value.

Maybe you should go for Olympus, when it is available for everyone.
it has better value for foreign spends
