Axis Airtel Card cashback blunder.

I recently got Axis Airtel Card and on generation of statement, I realised that any bill payments done on Airtel App, be it Airtel bills or others, is being counted under 25% category. This means that there is no way to tap into Rs 500 monthly utility bill payment benefit as of now. 🙄

Refer to the screenshot below. The only payment in this month was for my electricity bill of Rs 1595 and cashback shown is Rs 300 whereas it should have been Rs 159.5.



Fellow community members, I would request you to keep above in mind while getting this card or wait till Axis settles these reporting issues with Airtel.

For me also transactions done through Airtel cc on Swiggy have received wrong cashback of 1% instead of 10%. Rest cashbacks are fine.

Swiggy changed their merchant from Swiggy IN to Bundl Technologies that's the reason.

This may be done to discourage use of airtel axis credit card and encourage enrollment for Swiggy HDFC Credit Card.

Shady practices by Swiggy and Axis Bank.

My advice to everybody would be to buy Swiggy money gift vouchers via SBI Cashback or HDFC Millennia than use airtel axis and suffer.

I have seen one comment in this forum that Bundl Technologies merchant name is also giving wrong cashback in HDFC Swiggy credit card.

Then it's Swiggy's fault.
They Shouldn't have changed their merchant gateway before getting it cleared with HDFC and Axis.

RBI doesn't help and Axis points as correct cashback according to MCC

But the complaint will definitely help. They're genuine transactions.

I don't think, Swiggy tracks which CC gives what kind of rewards, and which user uses what card, and "discourage" them. Nops.
Startups have tie-ups with different payment gateways and keep on using different payment gateways based on success/failure rates. They may hv different MCC codes based on their negotiations with payment gateway and their overall financial contract with the payment gateway.
Startups only care about a successful payments, what users get as a cashback is least of their worries (if not their own c-branded cards).
This MCC ka nanga-naach has started because few people have been exploiting CC rewards in unethical ways.

IMHO in this case, cashback blunder is simply, a scammy/glitchy job by Airtel-Axis combine, to increase customer base for their card by over-promising, and then do chindigiri on actual cashback credits.

Going by this TnC, it's going to be a headache to keep on disputing cashbacks on a monthly basis. Disappointing. 😖😖😖

Who do I reach out to now? Axis customer care? And then ?

call and ask customer support about cashback received on each statement. they'll provide and if by chance got super cool support, call another. you'll get definitely.

Once you found missing transactions where they conisdered 1% instead of 10%, mail to pno with

... transaction screenshots from those apps (swigy, zmto, bb)

and ask for missing cashback.

it will be done, and you'll get missing cashback within next statement with follow up of this mail.

Note: Airtel CC relies on MIDs rather MCC, and their T&Cs document says "if any eligible merchant changes their MID, we have to inform them and get missing cashback", do check product page and share this if you got super cool support from PNO.

Or alternative: HSBC Cashback which provides 10% on these apps but require higher annual fee.

It gets credited 2 days before statement generation of "next" month. However you can check total cashback to be credited on this month's statement. No way to check cashback for a particular txn.

To add to what @Chaitanya-a already answered...

If the bill generates on Dec 18, we can see how much cashback we earned (or deserved) for the current billing cycle. Actual cashback will be credited only 2 days before the consecutive bill generation date (Jan 18), possibly on Jan 16.

Now they again changed the Merchant Names.
But Received 10% for this Merchant Name.
And many knowns Received 25% too.

The merchant name Airtel Payments Bank Ltd. is same for both 25% and 10% cashbacks. Both transactions are being captured without any cashback issues. While performing transaction on card selection page you will also see an option to apply for cashback coupon under offers section for 25% and 10% cashbacks,

I just don't understand why merchants messes up with MCC and merchant name frequently even if everything is running very smoothly and cashbacks are being tracked with proper MCC. Swiggy has also messed up pretty badly this time with MCC.

Payment Gateway is at fault.

Payment Gateway chabge the details and Swiggy did not shared Latest changes with Banks.

Everytime same merchant name Bundl Technologies is coming after the transaction gets settled under unbilled transactions for Swiggy food orders. I had also emailed to Axis PNO and got a reply that this merchant is tagged with Instamart and Genie orders on Swiggy so have received only 1% cashback as it is categorized under other spends.
