Axis Atlas

Have Atlas for last 3-4 months. For normal spends it is 2 Edge Miles per 100 (4% value). For Hotel and Travel sites (the owned ones), it gives 10% return. The miles are credited approx within 2-3 weeks of txn posting. Haven't faced any delay per se on that front. Point to remember if one is planning to buy points on places like IHG, it doesn't qualify as Travel and hence you get only 2% only. Personal experience. For swipes at hotels or airlines directly, full 5 edge miles (eqv. to 10%) will be credited to you. That also have I have used domestically and internationally so can confirm this. Please also note that sites like Cleartrip, Makemytrip, Airpaz etc. it is 2 EM per 100.
Have you used this on standalone 3 star/4star hotels in tourist location or tier cities? Does it get 5 edge miles or there is any issue with those?

As long as it codes to the correct MCC (7011) you won't have a problem. Whether your particular hotel will do that or not... will probably be super hard to tell - especially for the clueless receptionist. 🙂

@PiperatGatesofDawn Sorry I really didn't understand the maths for magnus here. Can you explain, pls?

IF the Magnus deval happens @ 5:1. Then we will get miles reward at 1.2%. From the travel edge portal we get 5x... so travel spends become 6%. If we spend 1L in a month that will add an additional 5%. So if we spend 1L our rewards will be 6%+5%=11%. If we spend 2L our rewards will be 6% + (5% / 2) = 8.5%. That means if we have traveledge accelerated spends of 1L we will get 11k miles and on 2L spends we will get 17k miles.

Similarly on Atlas it will be 10k miles on 1L spends and 20k miles on 2L spends.

5k EM on 1L spends and 10k EM on 2L spends on Atlas

55k ER on 1L spend and 85k ER on 2L spends on Magnus

which equates to 10k Miles and 20k Miles for Atlas
11k and 17k miles for Magnus

5k EM on 1L spends and 10k EM on 2L spends on Atlas

55k ER on 1L spend and 85k ER on 2L spends on Magnus

which equates to 10k Miles and 20k Miles for Atlas
11k and 17k miles for Magnus
If you think from accor angle Magnus is even worse as new transfer ratio (as per leaked doc) is 10:1 for accor

I used the card in my hotel stays in the int'l trip - at Langkawi, KL, Bali and Singapore for all payments more than what was paid for by points redemption. Wherever I used it, I received 5 miles per 100 spent. Even if I were to take ~5% as payout incl. GST, net gain was 5% in this (I don't have a Reserve so this was a good option overall). As such there was no issue even at any physical locations. Only for IHG where I had bought their points using this card, it seems such an activity doesn't count under Hotel spends. So I got only 2 EM instead of 5.

Please note I have no idea of usage in India hotels in Tier-1,2,3 cities (have used it once in Eros hotel, Delhi and I got 5 EM/100). Not even sure if all are mapped properly. My only guess is all of them should be following a similar MCC code and hence for hotel swipes it should be mapped hopefully. For travel websites, except Traveledge and Airline websites please don't use this card as 4% isn't too appealing when there maybe better options with other cards.

Ya better to use only directly on hotel & airline website.. Magnus for traveledge is better if it reaches 1 lakh milestone
