Axis Bank debit card upgrade offer

Hello, I have an Axis Easy Access savings account. I opened the account online in February 2023 and Axis gave me the 'Online Rewards Mastercard Debit Card' and a virtual VISA debit card. Now, Axis charged Rs. 590 for issuing the debit card and just a few days ago they charged the annual fee of the same amount. But today I received a notification from the Axis mobile app for upgrading the physical debit card. I tapped on it and that took me to the page where I saw the options to either block or upgrade my current physical debit card. When I tapped on upgrade, 3 options were there. 1) Online Rewards Mastercard debit card (Rs 236 including GST), 2) Value Plus debit card (Rs. 885 including GST) and 3) Online Rewards VISA debit card (Rs. 0).

Now, what should I do? I would always prefer not to pay Rs. 590 every year for that garbage physical debit card. So, should I just select the 3rd option and pay nothing in the upcoming years? Why is Axis even offering me the same debit card of the VISA variant for free when they can charge me Rs. 590 every year? I am confused.

Here, I am attaching the images of the options that I got in the app, the screenshot where Axis mentioned the charges for physical Online rewards and virtual debit card for Easy Access Digital savings account and also the image of the document that came with the physical debit card mentioning its charges

That's sad to know. I was in a similar position a few months ago, then only last week I blocked the old debit card and after a days applied for the ATM card. It's on the way.



Try contacting the customer care, RM or wait for a few months. Axis is weird as usual.

Edit: In net banking, click cards tab on the left hand side menu, under debit cards (credit cards, forex cards), you might see a link titled "apply now".

* Today i open axis easy access savings account, they provide insta kit along with visa platinum easy secure plus debit card, told that 356 charges will be debited* let see when will charges be taken by bank🤨.

After your card delivery, annual charges of your ATM card becomes zero or not?

No charges, yet! However, as per the schedule of charges (under netbanking => account => services => schedule of charges or under netbanking => services => accounts => schedule of charges), my account was supposed to be charged Rs.150 (+GST) for the debit card. Axis stopped charging my account after March 2024 for unknown reason. Not even the SMS charges for non-mandatory SMS. Holding normal savings account. So, something is weird with Axis (as always). It's been my primary account for all transactions until I switched to another bank at the start of this month.
 
Only 150 rupees for DEBIT card annual charges??❓❓ Is not strange that axis will deduct only 150 for annual charges of debit card? They somehow charges 590 or 354 for annual debit card
 
Changed my account from salary to savings as they were deducting chages every month for no salary credit.

When I asked for a debit card they said they don't offer any free debit card. I had closed my previous one as I was not using it and it was getting charged at around 800 per year but my UPI also got blocked because of that.

Now they've said to give me a debit card with charges around 250-60.
I asked about virtual card but they said both of these have same charges.
 
Changed my account from salary to savings as they were deducting chages every month for no salary credit.

You can take atm only card for zero fees if you like. It's available for many users in app. And yes for some unknown reason branch personnels or even branch operations head don't have any idea about this or you can say they don't want to know since it doesn't give them business.

Can we apply ATM card through the branch?

I can't do that because my NetBanking and app access is blocked right now and I can't login without debit card details. So I'll have to buck up this time I guess

You can apply by calling customer care. I did it last year. Customer care may insist not to take this card giving various reasons. But just stick to the point and say I need ATM card only.
Also confirm if there would be no charges.
Also note that Axis customer care can also lie about Debit card charges. I had faced the issue earlier when they had lied about a paid debit card being free. I had raised a complaint afterwards. So ensure to record any conversation with Axis Bank.

If debit card is already generated, then you may not be able to cancel. Check on the app or netbanking once. If not generated, then you could call customer service and check if it can be cancelled.
