Easy address update methods for all banks (and credit cards)

With the power of the Internet, there has been good initiatives by the banks in India to update one's address online or without visiting any branch. I'll be listing one by one (whichever I experienced) as a comment and link here as well.

Address change is one of painful processes in India with the govt departments and private entities demanding a proof to change the address, which is difficult to get when one moves places.

I request everyone to share their address change experiences so that it helps someone reading it and this in turn could reduce the paperwork by a huge margin.

Tell ICICI and Axis that you want to update your "communication" address (different than address proofs) and the bank can update the "permanent" address as per Aadhaar. Clearly ask them for help and tell them you don't have current address proof.
My permanent and communication address in ICICI are same as Adhar address. I want to update the communication address to my current location (different state) for which I have only rental agreement, do they accept Rental agreement as current address proof?

Even that's not required just ask/request them that you have a job here,so staying here & want to update my communication address as this, I don't have a proof of have this rental agreement, please update it using my biometrics, they'll do it.
Visit the nearest branch to your current residential address

Previously, there was no online method of changing the address associated with an IDFC First bank savings account. Their android app was updated two days ago. In the profile section of the app, which can be accessed by clicking on the three horizontal bars on the top left, one can now change not only their mobile number and email address, but also their residential address.

When I checked my wife's account, I discovered that there were two options available for changing the address: Aadhaar-based (nearly instant) and an undertaking-based option (meaning you can enter any address, which the bank will accept). I updated my wife's Aadhaar address which was the same as the one I wanted for the bank records. I followed the steps which included submitting two OTPs, one from UIDAI and the other from the bank, and within 2 minutes her new address was updated in her profile section.

When trying to update my Aadhaar address in my account, the option showed an error (seems like I'm out of favour with UIDAI). So I chose the second option and submitted OTP successfully. It informed me that it would take around 7 working days to update my new address in the system. (I had previously gone to the nearby branch to update my address but they messed up the area and road name).

Please note that this process will not update the address on the credit card account. To update the address, you can begin by modifying it in the savings account, and then by emailing the credit card department of IDFC Bank and asking them to update it on their system, using the address from the account. The bank usually takes 7-8 days to process such requests.
thanks. very helpful.

I received a letter from IDFC First Bank that you have requested for address change (Re KYC) receiving of this letter by you confirm us abt your current address and it will be updated after 2-3 days of receipt of this letter

Interesting. At HDFC the credit card address can be changed independently of that for the SB account.

Same I received. After 3 days of receiving such letter, my new address is now reflecting in the account/netbanking.

That's a vry nice initiative by idfc, I ve raised this issue with idfc 2months before over twitter, n received lots of call including their country head, I think that battle wins by this policy change, I think 1st bank to implement this online procedure

Many banks have this facility for many years now.

Can you name the banks pl
There are many and it is an very old feature.
IDFC has just copied this feature.

Have you checked CITI?? 5 years ago I have done this. Right now just check Kotak.
Even copy paste should be done perfectly using brain which IDFC haven't.

In fact in my opinion only one bank allows everything via Branch i.e HDFC... Otherwise other banks are way ahead in tech.

Thanks for sharing. In IDFC, had to go to branch for updating savings account address using passport since this online option wasn't present.
Now I got to know the credit card account has different address and doesn't have option to change online.
Reached out to banker email and they aren't updating based on savings account address and asking to go to branch
They could have enabled sync automatically or atleast given online option for both of them.

Should incorporate soon

I changed my credit card address to Saving account address by sending email to banker idfc just few days back. It takes around 4-5 days.
