As my SBI MC Platinum card was close to expiry, I felt the need to look for a better card. Aftet reading @Abhishek012's post regarding SBI Rupay-JCB DC and the features it was offering, decided to go for it.

SBI Rupay-JCB card cannot be applied online, so had to visit the branch for it. So, I made visit to this branch for the first time. The branch looked like it was older than me. I felt I was back in the 80s. The branch belonged to State Bank of Patiala before its merger with SBI.

The overall process was smooth. The staff were polite. Things have started to improve lately in public sector banks. Even though in the first attempt, they sent me Rupay Platinum, they admitted their fault and helped me get the right card this time.

Got the card after 5 days delivered by India Post. The design is average though.

Got it primarily due to zero forex charges.

Planning to use this for atm withdrawal in Bangkok & pattaya in october. And, later on i will try in UK around January. Got this JCB card for spouse saving account for this purpose.

I already have rhodium rupay select debit card because of salary account.

Actually I was able to take advantage of 0 forex swipes + atm withdrawals in Malaysia on my recent trip . Definitely recommend it if travelling to SEA countries.
However I should add, the acceptance of it, in Singapore especially was very low. Like barely worked at one POS out of 4-5 I tried. But it's definitely vfm just from atm withdrawals itself. Also gave very good rate comparatively.

how much is the balance in savings required to get this?
I had 1lakh avg balance (and have a larger TRV relationship with SBI) but it wasn't asked or checked upon in my case I believe. Had to visit branch and fill a form old school way, mentioned the code 'RPJ' to them as also informed by @Abhishek012 & it was approved and delivered in 5 days roughly. I think acceptance rates for this debit card is pretty high, provided you do not have multiple dcs I believe.

My spouse just use opened her SBI for this card 3 months back with IP of 2L.

Hardly maintain more than 50k. It's usually between 5k to 50k.

I assume consumer having gold & platinum saving account variant will get this irrespective of AQB.

for Thailand you have to pay 22- bhat per withdrew, to avoid that charge you can visit any bank and use your card to bank cashier and they will provide you money without any charge just don't forgot to bring your passport .
another thing you can use Aeon Bank atm wich charge 150 bhat only but it has very less atm

Can you guide which bank you went to?
I went to Bangkok Bank in chiang mai it was inside a shopping mall just need to take a slip and they ask for my passport and check my name on card with passport and give me cash , i have used my hdf dc as my niyo didn't work , remember to enable int cash withdorw withdorw 5k bhat charge arround 13k , all from hdfc charge no charge from bangkok bank .
