HDFC Millennia DC: Smartbuy 5% + 5% + 2.5%

TF Legend
This post is regarding earning 12.5% on Smartbuy using HDFC Millenia. There is nothing new in this but many of us are missing higher CB on low spend.

We all know that Millennia DC has max. cap of Rs.400 as 5% cashback so we mostly use it for 16000 CC Payment or some use it for wallet load of 40K.

The thing I analyzed today was, my friend in Dec- 2023 used his Millennia DC on smartbuy for Rs.5000 for flipkart voucher only and nowhere else. When I checked his rewards, it were 5% smartbuy cashback offer (upto Rs.1000/month) for HDFC cards i.e Rs.250 were credited in April 2024, 5% Millennia DC specific for txn on Smartbuy/Payzapp i.e as per TnC and also 2.5% as online usage. Total 375 was credited to him. Max. is 400.

With Millennia CC it was confirmed since years that smartbuy txns were giving 5% cashback + 1% online spend so total 6% but same is with Millennia DC also.

So next time when you buy A gift card from smartbuy worth Rs. 5340 will fetch you- Rs.267+133.50 = Rs. 400 (50 paisa 😆 will not be given as 400 is max limit). The smartbuy cashback of 5340*5/100= 267 will be extra and come under 1000 cashback category.

Main point missed was the 5% debit card specific cashback and 2.5% online and 1% offline/wallet load, all have a cumulative limit of max. 400. So most of us missed this thing as were spending more than 8000-16000 every month.

Solution
If it is 8.96%, then only I want to buy AGV 5000 every month using millennia DC; otherwise, it's a loss for me. The problem is I have to wait 90 days to verify. Thats why asking.
6.46% is guaranteed. Rest questionable now as some people told they didn't get it (extra 2.5%). I can't verify myself these days as paying 16K bills.
Another thing that confused me is... in Payzapp shop they are providing 3% for DC (all DC right?) but it was written 5% here https://www.hdfcbank.com/personal/pay/cards/millennia-cards/millennia-debit-card (ur given link). I can see the Payzapp page. It is clearly mentioned as 3%, and the change (5% to 3%) was possibly done 2-3 months back.
When you purchase APayV or any other voucher...
I can't see any offer in this link, Is it user specific? If not, I made a cc bill of 23k in Paytm, does it count for this ₹500 voucher?
Yes they are user specific,
I was asked to spend 80k on millenia credit card to get 1000Rs voucher and asked to spend 5k on marriot bonvoy credit card to get 500₹ voucher

Millennia Debit Card:

Key features:-

  • Get up to ₹4800 CashBack* every year
  • 5% CashBack points on shopping via PayZapp and SmartBuy
  • 2.5% CashBack points on all online Spends
  • 1% CashBack points on all offline spends and Wallet reloads.
  • Maximum cumulative cashback for 5%/2.5%/1% is Rs.400/month.
Smartbuy cashback (5%) is different from all key features mentioned above in bulleted Pt. 1 to 4 with maxium monthly cashback of Rs.1000 and applicable for using any HDFC Debit/Credit card except Infinia / DCB which has more reward point system. More details at link,

Scenario 1: Mr. X (Not Elon Musk of X) transacted on Smartbuy using Millennia Debit card for purchasing Flipkart voucher worth Rs.5000.

Now he is eleigible for following cashback:

1. 5% (max.1000) cashback from Smartbuy (will be posted under Promotional Cashback). So 5000*5/100 = Rs.250.

2. 5% cashback (under Pt.2 for millenia key feature) + 2.5% cashback under all online spendings. So Rs.250 + Rs.125 = Rs.375.

Total cashback= Rs. 625 or 12.5%.

Mr.X also made Txn on online website for Rs.2000 in same month after this. Total cashback = Rs.25 only as out of 400 he already got 375 for smartbuy txn under Millennia specific cashback category.

Mr. X made another txn at smartbuy after this for Rs.10000. All he will get is Rs.500 cashback under promotional points to be credited in 60-90 days.

So at smartbuy you can do txn of Rs.20000 for complete benefit of Rs.1000 and for same you will get Rs.400 Millennia DC specific also. Total= Rs.1400. But if you necessity is Rs.400 only, you can either pay Rs.16000 CC bill at SBI Unipay or HDFC BillPay or at smartbuy Rs.5340 txn only for purchasing voucher.

Now if you had transacted via Payzapp Shop, your cashback will be 3% as Payzapp specific posted as Payzapp points. 5% from smartbuy will come directly to card cashback under promotional cashback section. I don't know whether BillPay or recharge at Payzapp via Millennia DC fetch 2.5% or 5% or even no cashback. Never used on Payzapp till yet.

If Mr.X used Millennia CC for same transactions:

1. 5% smartbuy cashback (max. 1000)= Rs.250 (will be posted as statement credit within 3 days of txn).

2. 1% online cashback i.e Rs.50 (will be posted as cashpoints between 1-3 of every next month and available for redememption when next statement generates).

Total Cashback- Rs.300 (6% of total amount)

P.S (For Amazon Pay vouchers 2.95% extra is charged as conv. fee by smartbuy while Amazon shopping voucher fetches complete 5%+5%+2.5%).
So,
Spending ₹5340 in smartbuy using Millenia DC gives us ₹667 (400+267). That's about 12.5% cashback.
Spending 20k in smartbuy using Millenia DC gives cashback of ₹1400. That's about 7% in cashbacks.

1) Are there any exceptions that do not count for 5% cashback (for ₹1000 limit) in smartbuy/payzapp?

2) Are there any exceptions where 5%+2.5% for Millennia DC does not work in smartbuy/payzapp when using Millenia DC?

3) Is the ₹1000 max limit is for combined payzapp and smartbuy ?

Answers: 1. Until you have done transaction on smartbuy no matter whether vouchers or trains or partner site through smartbuy, you will get 5% upto 1000. 1000 limit is for smartbuy not payzapp. So no matter whether you move to smartbuy directly or via payzapp, it is only smartbuy cashback and payzapp has nothing to do with it.

2. Confirmed for Smartbuy that 5% extra Millennia DC feature CB and 2.5 Online feature cashback gets provided. Using it on Payzapp is a question mark. 5% is sure on Payzapp even on Billpay/recharge not sure about 2.5%. I rarely use Payzapp and that too for loading wallet via Millennia CC for tax payment every year. Now loading has charges, so won't be using anymore.

3. Again 1000 cashback is from smartbuy for all HDFC DC/CC. Payzapp has nothing to do with this 1K. Using your card on payzapp won't get you anything except Millennia DC which has cashback in its product feature. Using Millennia DC on Payzapp comes under 400 cashback category but visiting Smartbuy through Payzapp app in shop section will provide you 5% SBuy cashback as txn will be on Sbuy rather than in-app payzapp payment. So don't confuse smartbuy with payzapp.

Thanks for the explanation. This is really helpful as I am new to HDFC

Suppose I spend 5000 big basket voucher through smartbuy how many points do I get through millenia DC?
250(Promotional)+ (250+125, Millennia speicifc.)= 625. You need to have min. 400 points in Millennia specific cashback to redeem as it can be done only in multiples of 400. The promotinal cashback has minimum Rs.1 or 1 Point conditions. For redemption path is Login to Netbanking - Cards - Debit Cards - Enquire - Debit Card Cashback - Select Account - See Your Speicifc Points - Redeem.

P.S: Frankly speaking this has been told here tons of times but everytime someone comes and instead of searching answers themselves just put a question in few words. Life becomes better when you see around. If you had read Solution post, I don't think you may be having any confusion.

Update: HDFC Millennia Debit Card Specific Cashback of Rs.400 Credited for Month of April, 2024.

Before people ask too many questions, I am telling my txn. I got my card in March for which 400 was credited last month itself.

1. My transaction was Rs.8500 for Vouchers (Flipkart again).
2. No CC payment was done in month of April.

3. No other online txn was done.

Total cashback - Rs.425 (5% of total txn value) from Smartbuy credited in June and this 400 credited today = 825.

As 5% gets exhaust with 8000 only and this txn was Rs.8500, so can't figure out 2.5% extra in this. But as some people were saying they are getting only 2.5% and not 5%, it is false. So 5%+2.5% is confirmed now. Next month I will confirm myself as txn in May were mixed with enough room left for 5%+2.5%.

Nice post mate, it should make sense to everybody. There are multiple examples in this thread to understand the millennia DC. 👍🏻

If I done Amazon pay load money of 40000 and accordingly I will receive 400 cashback
Then If I do smartbuy transaction via millennia dc then how many % cashback will I receive

so you mean max one should spend on millenia dc is 400*100/12.5 = 3,200 inr ?
