Lounge overcrowding decreased?

May be i missed, is there any criteria going to implement?

Since last year many credit cards are starting to add a spend condition for lounge access e.g Regalia now needs Rs 100,000 in a calendar quarter to avail lounge access in the next one.

Plan your flight at odd hours.
Am I the only one who likes his home?

I read about all these people leaving home early for a flight just to sit in the lounge for a couple of hours, and I wonder why they feel their homes uncomfortable? I would anyday prefer to leave as late as possible for a flight so I can stay comfortably at home and eat good home food instead of running after a lounge.

Lounges are usually for people who check out of hotel rooms at 12 pm etc and have a later flight, or for layovers etc. I have seen this bizarre trend only in Indians who leave their homes early to experience lounges. So sad.

Your opinion is perfectly valid, a couple of possible counterpoints in favor of using the lounge
  1. I prefer to reach the airport reasonably early (2 - 2.5 hours before for domestic and 3-4 hours for international) as a risk management measure. I find this helps reduce the stress and paranoia of missing flights, plus leaves enough time to perform airport formalities in a relaxed manner
  2. When taking a flight at an odd time which falls between meals eating at the lounge is quite convenient

Yesterday, I was at the Delhi Arrival Lounge at around 10 p.m., and to my surprise, the lounge was 50% occupied. This is after the lounge terminated their contact with IDFC.

Earlier, there were hardly any guests in the arrival lounge; the staff numbers were usually higher than the guests at all times.

The Delhi Arrival Lounge currently accepts Priority Pass and Dragon Pass only. These days, they don't accept credit or debit cards.

I anyway reach early thus lounge helps. I keep a large buffer because of how bangalore traffic works. Now it's ingrained in my brain even if I take a flight from some other airport

It's not always about liking or not liking home. It is mostly about the peace of mind of not missing flight. Personally I cannot afford missing flight. So, lounge or not, I always reach few hours early at airport.

There are so many things that can go wrong with a tight schedule. From heavy traffic to sudden road blockade due to construction or some VVIP passing or some political rally to name a few. Sometimes there may be heavy rush at checkin counter or insufficient checkin counter. Last month I was flying vistara and there were only 2 checkin counters open for economy and in the queue was like 500 people waiting to checkin. I was lucky to have access to business class counter. Was genuinely concerned about those who were in that economy queue might have missed the flight.

So, there can be so many reasons why people leave early for airport. And if no unforeseen circumstances happen, then they kill time at lounge. Some people also go to airport early as they love plane spotting.

In addition to traffic and long check in lines I'm also paranoid about immigration queues during international flights. I've heard a lot of horror stories about multi-hour waits but fortunately max I've had to endure is 30 minutes or so during departure.

Really hoping that India introduces biometric passports and auto-gates soon.

Bhai, Digi Yatra (Auto-Gates) system has been introduced since 2022.

Agree. Hope autogates come to India soon.

I read a news article that this was planned but considering how long it has taken to roll out biometric passports (diplomatic passports are biometric since 2021 but ordinary passports are still not in 2024) I am not hopeful of this happening anytime soon.

Incidentally I was on vacation in Bali in May and the smartgates there are very efficient but could not use them due to lack of biometric passport. Fortunately the immigration lines were short when we arrived, but it could make a huge difference when multiple planes arrive at the same time and you have to wait hours just to clear immigration.

this digiyatra and immigration gates are different. if you have been to singapore, there are gates instead of immigration officers.
I don't like these systems, I like collecting stamps. Having Automated gates and storing that info digitally removes the fun out out it.
