Lounge overcrowding decreased?

I read a news article that this was planned but considering how long it has taken to roll out biometric passports (diplomatic passports are biometric since 2021 but ordinary passports are still not in 2024) I am not hopeful of this happening anytime soon.

Incidentally I was on vacation in Bali in May and the smartgates there are very efficient but could not use them due to lack of biometric passport. Fortunately the immigration lines were short when we arrived, but it could make a huge difference when multiple planes arrive at the same time and you have to wait hours just to clear immigration.
One con of immigration gate is lack of stamps on passport. May not matter for everyone but for a person like me who loves to collect stamps, it makes me sad.

It's not about biometric passports. Indonesia didn't implement it properly. Our Indian non-biometric passports work flawlessly at Singapore e-gates.

Lounge is a profitable business. Now smaller airport has also started opening lounges . Airport having single lounge will always be crowded. Big airport should have minimum 2 lounges .
Only Bangalore airport terminal 1 has 4 lounges 2nos blr domestic and 2 no’s 080. Due this ,this has solved crowding of lounges. there is hardly any queue to access lounge even in peak time morning and evening when I travelled recently. Thanks to shifting of entire international flights and few domestic carrier to terminal 2 .
I've been to 080 international arrivals and none of my cards worked there even AU Zennith+ then receptionist asked me for Priority pass and 2 months later they charged me 3k 😪, and that lounge has nothing but idly and some other breakfast options, even their coffee machine was not working...

PS: It was morning so was talking about Idly 😅

Mostly Priority pass issued in india (except issued with hdfc infinia and citi prestige) is chargeable in domestic lounges. After 15 July , 2024, citi prestige will be converted to axis Olympus , and priority pass will be chargeable as per terms and conditions of axis Olympus.

Yes it is true that dependng on the technology that the smart gate uses you may not need biometric passports.

When I was last in Singapore the smart gates were only for citizens so haven't experienced it there but was able to leave Dubai through the smart gates.

I agree that passport stamps are a nice collector item but it is also nice to have the option of a smart gate, especially if you are visiting a country for the second or third time. I've heard you can usually request for a stamp anyway if you prefer.

For some reason, I fancy those passports which have many stamps, obviously not like same country over and over again, but multiple countries spread out. Like I have mine stuck with the old passport which ran out of pages. I don't want to shift to digital biometrics. 😭

Lounge overcrowding will reduce if they reduce / put restrictions on Rupay Platinum Debit Cards
This has been started I guess, AU Bank discontinued Lounge Access feature on their Rupay Platinum Debit card. Definitely more banks will join soon.
Personally I always felt Rupay Platinum (even basic Visa & MC Platinum cards as well) should never have Lounge access feature & shall have been restricted only to Rupay Select cards (or Signature & above for Visa variant & World & above for MC variant cards) to avoid overcrowding and decreasing luxury factor of Airport Lounges.

I have not visited Japan yet but they have this cool concept of souvenir stamps that I think you might like. I'd keep them in a separate booklet though.

I agree, too many people queuing up at airport lounges these days and shuffling through their cards hoping one of them will work, holding up the line in the process.

Ohh yeah yeah, they do have that. I'll start collecting it next time I'm there. Hahaha.
Never collect fancy stamps on passport. You may collect it on a separate booklet. Passport is a sovereign document and only immigration officers have the authority to stamp it. One can get barred from any country/boarding flights if such fancy stamps are present in passport. It is considered as mutilation.

That's obvious, duh. However, thanks for the proactive suggestion. Appreciate that.

So a new terminal has opened up at Lucknow Airport named terminal 3 and all domestic and internation traffic has shifted to it. They have a really small makeshift lounge called AJ1881. Turns out, the only card they accept is HDFC DCB, not even Infinia for some reason. I luckily have it. Felt privileged to gain access there 😀

I went through the reviews and it seems like even priority pass isn't accepted. I think they will eventually increase the card acceptability.
