Amex plans to start 2024 with a grand reward of 1,35,000 MR points when upgrading to a Platinum Charge card.

Users currently holding Amex Platinum Travel, Amex Platinum Reserve and Amex Gold Charge card are getting these offers.
You can see it in the app, refer to the screenshots attached below.

For the heavy spenders, this is a great deal since you get multiple loyal hotel loyal memberships and do anything concierge service.

If you don't spend a lot of money but feel the points can help, you can still upgrade for the points.


If you don't need the points, you can get the Amex Platinum Travel or the Amex MRCC card which remains the best card for monthly spends between 6K-40K.

I also got the same revert from CC that the card which has received the upgrade offer shall be deactivated and Plat Charge would get activated

There are different results with different people.

Once you apply for an upgrade, you'll get a call from the Amex upgrade team. You can tell them you want to keep holding the current card and they will allow you to keep it while getting you the new card.

Guys just got my Platinum Charge approved.

Received an offer some days ago on email for upgrading my Platinum Travel to Platinum Charge.

I had contacted the customer support on chat and call both before applying, they said if you opt for offer Platinum Travel will be closed.

After I applied:

1. I got a call from the AMEX Team who were looking at the AMEX Platinum onboarding. They confirmed with me that my Platinum Travel will not get closed and I can keep it as it is.

2. I hold an AMEX Plat Travel, MRCC and Gold Charge.

3. I now have an AMEX Platinum Charge approved.

4. The customer care team on chat and call mentioned I can only have 2 credit cards + 1 charge card (and I will have to close Gold Charge before applying for Platinum Charge.

5. However, I now have 4 cards from AMEX (customer care will mention that you can ONLY have 3, but it's not true and you indeed can have 4). I don't know if it's a loophole / glitch / they are unaware but it is happening.

Also please note: My gold was recently approved and delivered not more than 2 months ago. I have paid 1,000 + Tax for this.

So maybe, that's also the reason they are not shutting my gold or even mentioned anything about it.

Yeah, some other people on the forum seem to have 4 cards too so this seems like the right way to upgrade and keep your cards.

I have a plat travel card, I have Received the offer for upgrade to plat charge
If I upgrade the card and do not activate it, will I be charged 70k and will my plat travel will still work?
I just want to keep the metal card without activating it!

When did you opt for upgrade and got the call??

I have opted on Friday and not yet received the call till date.

Congratulations for your new Plat Charge Card

I was curious to know that out of the 4 cards you hold now, after paying the joining fees for the new Plat Charge, going forward do you need to pay for the other cards as well as they near their annual extension or is there any leeway there ?

Of course you can keep the metal card but it will not work until u activate it. U will be charged if u activate it else no charge. But what is the use of just keeping metal card won't make any difference maybe you may. If u don't want to activate it better not upgrade. You will start getting calls and emails that you still kot activated and if u say no won't activate it they will close it and next time when u really apply u may not get this offer of 135k points. Who knows future is like.

my friend applied on Friday night and got a call today. There were 2 options suggested by the person 1) upgrade from gold charge to plat charge without kyc or 2) keep the gold charge and apply fresh with kyc for plat charge and he can keep all 4 (gold + plat charge, mrcc, plat travel)

on the other hand, another friend applied on Friday evening, yet to receive the call.
