Amex plans to start 2024 with a grand reward of 1,35,000 MR points when upgrading to a Platinum Charge card.

Users currently holding Amex Platinum Travel, Amex Platinum Reserve and Amex Gold Charge card are getting these offers.
You can see it in the app, refer to the screenshots attached below.

For the heavy spenders, this is a great deal since you get multiple loyal hotel loyal memberships and do anything concierge service.

If you don't spend a lot of money but feel the points can help, you can still upgrade for the points.

If you don't need the points, you can get the Amex Platinum Travel or the Amex MRCC card which remains the best card for monthly spends between 6K-40K.

Had a couple of questions regarding Plat charge benefits, especially the Platinum Travel Service.
1. Do they allow us to add our loyalty membership numbers to bookings? I think for flights we can directly add them on the website using "manage booking", not too sure how hotel bookings work.
2. The Taj 25% and Oberoi 3rd night free discounts. Can we get them only by using Amex concierge? Also, in these 2 specific cases, can our membership numbers be used?

Wasn't too sure about creating a new post for this, so asked it here anyways. Some insight would be appreciated.

1.Platinum team can mention your hotel loyalty number if you tell them at the time of booking.but it depends on the hotel to honor that.usually you don't get any loyalty benefits if you book from amex. because hotels treat this as a 3rd party booking.

2.Yes you need to call the travel team for Taj and Oberoi offers.these have limited inventory so you need to book in advance.

The offer to upgrade got extended to 29Feb (earlier it was 31Jan) for applying and have to get approved before 31Mar (earlier 29Feb). I think Amex is trying to convert Platinum Charge as mass market product similar to US variant.

Same PDF with updated date
Instead of making the luxury card a mass market one. They should make the gold card better and push it into premium tier.
To compete with the likes of infinia, Magnus.

Jotting down a list of features that could make this better. and not eat into their travel segment of cards
  1. Make it metal (I know doesn't make the card any better but people will go crazy for Amex gold metal card)
  2. Raise the annual fee. offer some monthly zomato or Swiggy credit to offset it. (Taking inspiration from US card)
  3. There should be category multiplier like retail 3x restaurants 2x or something to make this an everyday mass market card.
  4. And you saw this coming. Better acceptability
of course we can dream all day. But there is a large Gap between Platinum Travel (5000/-) and Platinum Charge (60000/-). Not exactly sure if reserve cuts it.

@hrish88 seems to be an expert here would appreciate his review. you can basic one's if that's too much typing 😉
Lol I am not an expert.but using this card from last 1 year. The card is mainly useful for for travel(flights and hotels).if you are not in to luxury travel or frequent business travel then it very hard to extract good value from this card.

1.The best use case for this card is Oberoi hotels. In india it gives 3rd night complimentary along with other perks as room upgrade, discount on food n spa etc.It will save you anywhere from 30K to 1L per booking.they have similar offers for international Oberoi properties also.

2.The another use case is with marriot.you get Gold Elite tier benefit which gives room upgrade and free breakfast in most of the properties in india.thats a saving of 3-5K per visit.so if someone is staying in marriot for 10-15 days a year can easily extract a value of 30-40K easily.

Note:same is applicable for Hilton also. but i prefer Marriot.

3.The card gives 25% with Taj.so if someone doing Taj Bookings worth 1L plus can easily save 15-20K with taj.

4.You can get 12.5% reward rate with reward multiplier.I mostly use it for amazon and MMT.but you can find all the major players on it.They have one more program for expensive brands called RewardXcelarator which give 10X or 20X rewards which comes out to 25 to 50%.But most of the brands there are on the expensive side.

5.Amex also gives targeted spend-based offers which are useful.Last year i got 12K taj vouchers and 21K amazon vouchers on spending 3L.

6.Another use case is travel and lifestyle teams which are useful for various things from hotels and restaurant bookings etc.

7.There are airline benefits also but i have not used it so far so can not comment on it.

Overall its a great card if its suits your lifestyle otherwise just from a rewards point of view its not that useful considering 70K fee.

upvoted. Adding one more
Marriot gold == krisflyer elite (free upgrade)

How does these hotel memberships like Marriot, Hilton work ? Is it like annual subscription from the date you avail it or it holds the status until you close the card ?
