Which Debit or Credit Card Have You Closed (or Plan to) in 2025 & Why?

I am also feeling 2025 should be year of declutter after collecting so many in 2024. Please advice-
ICICI Amazon Pay- this is now oldest..will stay
ICICI Emerald Metal -got 3months back only simple 3% and fees more than met by joining benefits and feel renewal get same points, will keep it.
SBI Simplysave Rupay - only rupay card and cheapest sbi card just to avail any offer
HDFC Diner Metal - slow upgrade from moneyback to millenia to regalia Gold to Diner Metal now- most used card now.
Amex Travel and MRCC - collected 1lacs points in last 12months but what to do with points and cards now. Doubtful should I bother keeping? Mostly don't have spend for it. Only reason maybe to put some bekaar spend like Income tax to achieve milestone but now Diner Metal is better also considering can pay bill from Idfc debit card.
Tata Neu Infinity - ltf for me though many criticize it lot but I like it lot especially for Tata brands and 3 times in last one year I got best rates for Taj/ Gateway hotels through offers here. Only Tata brand spends here.
Axis Atlas - recently taken just to see if it suits. Already doubtful what to do with it with so many exclusions even for milestones.
IDFC Wealth and Mayura- wealth just for being ltf and Mayura will certainly close though among all this is best looking cards but now looks shouldn't matter😃
Overall now putting most spends on Diners Metal and Atlas where Diner doesn't work.
Should I close Atlas/ Amex/ IDFC cards or some of these.
All advice welcome.
@SSV @BVC @Aniket @vaibhav111 @coolguy1 can help you regarding Amex Cards.
Close Mayura at renewal if IDFC doesn't provide a good retention offer.
UPI: Get the Yes Bank Kiwi Card for up to ₹1.5L in spending during the first year to get 5% CB.
If you can meet the Silver Tier in Atlas you can continue using the card. @Anupama_Jha might shed some more insight.

Atlas is still one of decent cards of Axes 🪓

Especially if u spend atleast 3L to 7.5L in a year.
Mix of 20-25% on trvl and rest on normal 2x category, u can easily pull some good stays or business class tickets.

Plan to close:
Tata Neu Plus: its a paid card which has been devalued quite a lot. Hence, not finding it useful

Axis Ace CC: same reason as above

Kotak Zen Signature: haven't used this card in past 9 months so not useful anymore

Indusind Legend: only useful for BookMyShow buy 1 get get which is sometime a hit and a miss so not useful. Plus Customer Care service is pathetic

Bob Energie CC: it an LTF additional CC. Already have 3 add on CC in BOB Snapdeal CC which is enough for bank discounts so not useful.

Kotak 811: they have permanently blocked my UPI so not useful.

Indus Advantage Savings account: pathetic customer service and it's a zero balance but since closing legend CC so this account is also a bye bye.

Reposting in short:
HSBC: Close both salary account and Platinum credit card. No benefits.
HDFC: Get a Core CC, Nothing to close.
ICICI: Get a Privilege savings account and Emeralde PVC. Close Sapphiro if I get Emeralde.
SBI: Upgrade debit cards to RPDC.
DLB: Upgrade savings account and debit card.
Federal Celesta and Indusind Tiger:
Retain till it is devalued. Decide later.

As we step into 2025, many are re-evaluating their financial choices, including which debit or credit cards to keep or close. Whether it's due to high fees, reduced benefits, better alternatives, or simply streamlining finances, card closures are a key part of financial management. Share your experiences—Which debit or credit card have you already closed or are planning to close in 2025, and what led to your decision?

Cards I have already closed in 2025 and the reasons for their closure.
Credit Cards:

  • HDFC Tata Neu Plus (Rupay) - HDFC was not upgrading my card to Infinity or any other HDFC Core card and the limit was quite low compared to my other cards, they gave me 1 LE from 45K to 74K.
  • ICICI Times Prime (Visa) - I acquired it solely as a collectible.
Debit Cards:
  • ICICI WM MC World upgraded to ICICI Wealth Select Visa Infinite.
Credit Cards: (Scheduled for closure upon renewal)
  • IDFC Ashva (Visa) - Depends on IDFC Renewal Benefits.
  • RBL BMS Play (MC) - Got it FYF from 2nd year doesn't make any sense after BMS discontinued the Superstar program.
  • SBM One Card (FD) (Visa) - Not getting an unsecured card upgrade offer will close after maturity.
  • Axis Neo (Rupay) - Upgrade to some other card.
Debit Cards: (Scheduled for closure upon renewal)
  • BOB Rupay Platinum(Blue One)
  • BOB Bharat Petroleum Rupay Platinum
  • BOB Sapphire - Devaluation in Airport Pick up & Drop Service.
Cards I am Planning to get in 2025:
  • ICICI Emerald Metal
  • HDFC CC will open a new account and wait for pre-approved offers
  • IDFC Private Metal DC
  • BOB Snapdeal LTF (Rupay)
  • Indusind Eazydiner Signature
  • RBL Shoprite LTF
  • Indusind Delight DC
  • Kotak 811 Super Account

Feel free to share your thoughts and portfolio.
Closing my Indusind Rupay Platinum, ED Platinum, and Indian Bank Rupay Classic DC.
Looking for ICICI Emerald Metal LTF/FYF.

Kiwi is bettter than neu BS for UPI.

Apay is just extra CL on CIBIL as SBI CB covers apay mostly in everything (except the 5k limit)

Coral/rupay etc all waste tbh.

I closed my apay (5 yrs old card) yesterday. Was quite emotional letting it go but gotta get my portfolio down.
Even i have the same feeling for ICICI apay and coral( useless )

With my major spends are with millennia LTF. but can't trust HDFC in future they might stop giving 5% cashback

Had 30 cards at start of the year with only Marquee, MRCC, Smartearn, Bajaj DBS and Ace as paid. Remaining 25 were LTF.

Closed Smartearn, Coral Rupay, Marquee, Kotak League (not to be confused with Privy League signature) and now Ace.

Flipped HSBC Visa Plat to HSBC Live + at the same time. Very satisfied with this decision.

Going to close Bajaj DBS as well, later in the year. Going to replace Ace with some good offering from Axis.

Had tons of cards piled up with impulsive acquire over last couple of years. Now trying to clean up 🧹

Closed already:
- Amex Platinum Charge
- Axis Ace
- Onecard
- Yes Finbooster+Rupay
- BOB Energie
- HDFC Pixel Play
- Kotak IOCL
- ICICI Platinum
- ICICI Coral Rupay
- IDFC Power+

Planning close over next few months
- StanC Smart
- SBI Cashback (maybe)
- HSBC Live+ (maybe)
- HDFC Swiggy (maybe)
- BOB Eterna

No, we can't customize, we have to wait 7 days for deregister.

Mobile Number @ tapicici
Every time, my UPI transaction through Tata Neu app using Neu Infinity card card fails (scanning merchant QR). The card works in other apps like Phonepe. How to fix the issue? I have reinstalled the app; removed the card from the app and added again but the problem persists.
