Axis Bank sending notice for clarification regarding customer's travel spends on atlas

Axis Bank today sent notices to many of its Atlas credit card customers requesting clarification and invoices regarding their "travel category spends". Axis Atlas is a travel-focused credit card, so it's surprising that the bank is asking for invoices and clarification for travel category expenses over the past few months. A few days ago, Axis Bank deducted Edge Miles and Edge Reward Points from some customers' reward accounts, citing business transactions. Now, they are requesting clarification on affected customers' travel spends within the next 30 days, otherwise, the bank will cancel their credit cards.

Here, I'm attaching a copy of the notice email:

Many genuine Atlas customers have been affected by this move. Some people just spent under 10k on travel categories and received clarification notices. I can understand Axis's desire to eliminate abusers from their customer list, but troubling genuine customers is unacceptable. This is the main reason I didn't add the Axis Magnus Burgundy credit card/Axis Magnus credit card to our list of the best credit cards for 2024. While it may offer good rewards, it's not reliable at all. Axis should revert to their old credit card reward system as they are not capable of running a reward system with airmiles transfer partners.
For peace of mind, stay away from Axis Bank credit cards.

what is a travel category?
is it only those transactions which are marked as TRAVEL in the statement?
or
all direct airlines/hotels transactions as well?

Okay, let's get into some details about this crap from Axis??
Can someone clarify me about the following..

1) Is Axis asking whether the transactions are done for personal use / business use?
Or
2) they are asking to prove those transactions were travel categorised expenses?

Which one it is??

PS : I don't hold Atlas and never will want to own any premium offerings from Axis

Just received acknowledgment mail for the invoices/evidences shared through the email link. They’ve specified the merchants names for which they suspect NON PERSONAL use. Most are Hotels/Airlines/Travel mcc merchants. Have asked for 5 working days. Lets see !

2 card se ban 🥸
Definitely, look at what they have been doing for the transactions down in the past 6 months or so..
If you frequently close and and open several cards , same or different at some stage they will pick it up and take appropriate action, I guess…
Axis has no shame in shaming / humiliating their customers .. I guess

What are those merchants? If you could tell that, that'd help some of the people here.

Isn't that the purpose of atlas card?

@S S V - it means, two birds with one stone.

Shikar dawan has nothing to do with axis.
Thanks for the help, generally for short Hindi posts I normally take Google Matha’s help.. otherwise I couldn’t have lasted this long on this forum…
I am waiting for others responses in the subject matter…
Thanks anyway

(I do not have ANY travel card.)

It is not either 1) or 2) - of your doubt.

It is BOTH 1) and 2).

That's my hunch.

we want to prove it seems.

Okay.. coming to the actual point…

If they are asking for question 1, they have every right to ask…
If they are asking for question 2, they have absolutely no right and non of their business to ask us to prove they are genuine travel related expenses .. the reasons

1) Customers can spend anywhere they want as long as the personal expenses are legal according to the law of land… eg . We can spend on brothels if we want to , as long as it is legal… the banker has no authority to ask us why did we spend on brothels
2) we just spend .. the transactions get categorised according to the MCC code supplied by the network. We have no control over how it was categorised…
3) suppose we spent on travel website and it supplies non travel MCC to the Bank, will the Bank give RP on travel category / non travel category??
All this BS and Indian customers are putting up with this because there are a lot of abusers from the consumers side: with this the genuine customer is suffering…

I still can’t comprehend how can they ask us to prove they are travel related expenses..
If they think they are not, just don’t give RPs
What a shame the customers needed to put up with this shameless Bank…
