Issuance Fee Waiver Offer
There is another offer running on the issuance of an HDFC ForexPlus card where the joining fees get waived if you load a minimum of 1,000 USD or equivalent value of another currency. Check this out.

My Experience

Since I have an international trip planned next month to Japan I tried to apply HDFC ForexPlus Card (multicurrency card) and load some 2,00,000 Yen to the card to compare the actual reward rate. While Google is showing the exchange rate of 2L Yen equal to 112150 INR, HDFC is charging me some 1,16,695 INR including loading charges of around 195. It equates to a direct loss of approximately 4.01% since HDFC has higher Forex rates. But with a 16.66% (5X) reward rate on my Diners Club Black credit card, this deal is too good since it would leave me a net reward rate of 12.65% which handsomely beats even the reward rates of Axis Olympus and Axis Reserve. This is a good offer especially if you hold Diners Black or above credit cards.

Loading in USD is proving to be much cheaper since only approximately 2% charge is being applied so if you want to get a card then go for Regalia Plus Forex card since although it can be loaded only in USD but can be used to pay in any currency worldwide since it has zero cross currency markup charges.

Nope, in fact it's worse than the Multicurrency ForexPlus Card in terms of ATM withdrawal fees. Regalia forex card has a $4 ATM withdrawal fee whereas the Multicurrency forex card has a $2 withdrawal fee (for USD; it's similar low amounts for other currencies as well). Regalia forex is a better option if you're going somewhere cards are widely accepted and you don't need to use much cash.
Thx for the reply.. I need it for Thailand.. Thinking to load the amount using Multi currency card and then withdraw entire amount from any atm in Thailand and sell the Thai bhat locallly in India. What would be the charges and any idea how much I can withdraw from Thailand atm and which atm is the best.. Applologies for so many questions being asked

Money loaded🤩. Now I need to spend it🤮. Let's see when that happens. USD has already fallen 0.1% from the day I applied. Overall 9 days from Application to Loading.
Tried few transactions in INR on Flipkart, Amazon etc. Nothing went through. So, yeah, INR transactions are not working.

Tried one flight booking on Qantas in AUD, went through without otp. So, seems like these transactions don't come under MOTO or Card not present categories. That gave some relief.

USD to AUD Conversion rate was better than Google rate. But 2.1% markup while loading usd was already charged.

How much exchange rate they charged for INR to USD during loading vs market buy rate?

Not who you replied to, but I directly loaded 1000+ USD to save on the joining fees as well.

You'll get a terrible rate for THB to INR cash conversion in India. In Thailand, most ATMs charge 220 THB as a withdrawal fee on top of your card / bank's withdrawal fee.

Yes, got that confirmed from the bank. Multiple other people on this thread have also verified.
Ok superb.
I wish to apply regalia forex card with load of 1k usd using dcb pvc and unloading it at 2% after a month without any travel.
This completes my yearly milestone.

This plan works? Can u suggest any modifications?

Check whether yearly milestone benefits are worth the 4%. I don't think so, personally. This is not about fee waiver.

To those who are all loading for future use, please watch the TCS limit of 7L till FY end. If you have spent already much Forex, you may end up having TCS of 5%.

If you have an HDFC savings account and credit card, they don't really check the travel details so you can put any date. The forex card is valid for 5 years.
Can you please put some thoughts on withdrawal. Say for e.g. 3 yrs down the line I want to close the card and withdraw the balance, how will it be processed?

I am currently not staying at the same location where I have my home branch. I am travelling to USA in 2 weeks and wanted to know if I can get the card picked-up from any other HDFC branch that is nearer to me ? Also if we load the Forex card with credit card that has GVP activated, will we get benefit of 1% alsol as part of GVP benefit on a foreign transaction. TIA.

It can be picked from any branch near you, in the application you will find the option to select the branch.

If we get the GVP benefit then it will be the cherry on the cake, I'm not sure of it, other members can comment.

GVP is for international txns. In Forex case, you're paying the bank in INR domestically.. GVP won't be applicable here..

Went to a local branch today and applied for regalia forex online sitting there. They had one card left but didn't give me saying they process forex on weekdays only. Hopefully I can get it Monday have my trip next Sunday.
