My Infinia Journey - Jan'25 - Zero CCs to Infinia within a year

Today, I finally got the much-awaited Infinia Metal Card! When I reflect on the past year, it has been quite a learning journey. Last year, at this time, I had zero credit cards. I had been working for 8 years but was never interested in credit cards. My basic lounge access was covered by the HDFC Debit Card. However, with the start of 2024, I finally decided to get a decent card with good rewards and premium lounge access. Here’s my credit card journey:

1. Jan 2024: From the first week of January, I started researching credit cards and found this amazing community. I read many posts from experts like @TechnoFino, @SSV, and others. I was already aware of the Apay ICICI card through the app, but through the forum, I learned it’s a very good LTF card, so I applied for it. I also came to know about the Sapphiro LTF offer for alumni and applied for that as well. The Sapphiro card was initially rejected, but emailing alumnicc helped me to get it approved. Now began my HDFC credit card journey. I learned that the DCB LTF offer for alumni was discontinued in October. Still, I mailed grievance redressal asking for Diners Club Metal LTF based on my alumni status. After fighting for a few days and escalating to the MD Desk, I finally agreed to FYF DCBM. Infinia was my ultimate goal.

2. Feb 2024: After too many verifications, I finally received the DCBM in mid-February with a 5L limit. I started using the DCBM extensively.

3. May 2024: I had a high spend during this month, which helped me achieve the quarterly milestone.

4. June 2024: Just before the end of June, I was still at 5L limit. I had read that people with co-branded cards were not getting Auto LEs. So, I had avoided co-branded cards till now, hoping to get an auto-LE to reach the Infinia limit threshold. After reading many posts, I learnt that even without co-branded cards, getting an Auto LE is rare, especially a high one. I decided to take the Swiggy card for now and aim for Infinia next year. Luckily, the day Swiggy was approved, I received a huge auto LE that upgraded my limit to 7.5L+. I immediately closed my swiggy after receiving it as I needed another auto le.

5. Sep 2024: Another significant spend helped me achieve the quarterly milestone. I also took the SBI SimplyClick card for festive discounts.

6. Oct 2024: Just before the end of October, I mailed grievance redressal requesting a manual LE. They declined, and even after escalation, they informed to wait for six months from my last LE in June. Fortunately, just a couple of days later, I received a small auto-LE, which pushed my limit past the ₹8L mark! I could have asked for the Infinia upgrade then, but I had another big spend coming up in December and didn’t want to lose the quarterly 10K milestone points. So, I decided to request the upgrade in January.

7. Nov 2024: I made the mistake of checking Tata Neu pricing, which triggered an enquiry.

8. Dec 2024: Another major spend helped me achieve the quarterly milestone. I also learned that upgrades have cooldown periods and started worrying that my November Tata Neu pricing check had triggered a cooldown. Community members reassured me that it hadn’t.

9. Jan 2025: I mailed the Priority Redressal team for the Infinia upgrade on January 1st. I received the denial from grievance redressal the next day. As mentioned in my other post, I sent a strong reply, but they still rejected it. I escalated it to the PNO, and after waiting for 3 days, I finally got the approval on January 6th! Infinia started reflecting on the app today!

I want to thank each one of you, as each of your messages on the forum helped me a lot throughout my journey. There are so many people I DM'd, and each one of them gladly helped me. A special thanks to @_ayush, @Yugi, and @ashmit30 for sharing their Infinia upgrade email content, which helped me craft mine.

Tips for Infinia Upgrade Mail Content:
  1. Mention your relationship with the bank.
  2. Mention the eligibility criteria of 9L+ spends in the last 6 months and 8L+ limit
  3. Mention your spends
  4. If using DCB, and you faced acceptability issues, mention that

Thanks!

I don't exactly know what triggered the Auto LE. I assume it was the high spends of the previous month and not swiggy. Spends were 3L+ on a card limit of 5L. Also I was maintaining a good balance in my hdfc account. That might have also contributed. Getting it at the same time of Swiggy approval seems to be a co-incidence but as they say, HDFC works in mysterious ways 🙂

Good job. What was your CIBIL and Experian just before Jan 2024 and how did it change over year?
I never checked CIBIL before Jan'24. The first time I checked was in Jan'24, and it was 720+. I saw two very old temporary personal loan accounts of buy now pay later, and a DC EMI.
In Q2'24, was around 750. In Q3'24 was around 770. In Dec, jumped to 795+, where it is currently. Have not tracked Experian.

Thank you for your kind words, but even you can achieve it. It was all because of the support of this forum and a bit of luck of getting early LEs. 🙂

This is great. Good inspiration for everyone. What was credit limit you got for your first cards apay and Sapphiro?

Apay got generated first, hence with low limit around 50k. Then sapphiro generated with base 3L limit. Asked customer care to match. Later they gave 1 lakh LE on both. Ignored on Sapphiro and took it on APay.
