Unexpected Convenience Fees with SBI RuPay Platinum JCB Debit Card (Friday Offer)

Hey guys, today is Friday and I went to Amazon to pay my electricity bill.

To my surprise, I noticed that my SBI RuPay Platinum JCB card is being considered as a 'CREDIT CARD' instead of 'DEBIT CARD' and incurs convenience fees of 1.18% when paying my electricity bill.

I tried talking to customer care, explaining everything to them, but they were clueless and took 30-45 minutes of my time without any resolution.

I have a question for everyone who holds this specific debit card variant:

Could you please check if your debit card is also being considered as credit card? Are you also being charged convenience fees?

Thanks in advance.

Do post some details on how to raise this issue. Should we do it on app or website. Where exactly is the option in app or website.

This will help everyone including me, who is getting charged convenience fee to get it reversed as well as make amazon detect this error
I will share once i receive the feedback, if it is working or not, but you can raise the request on the amazon website. Go to Amazon.in > Customer Service > Your Orders > Copy the BBPS order No. Then go to Help Bill Payment page and at the bottom you will see " How do i raise a complaint about the biller" > You will see >Submit Complaint at this link> Open the link and paste the BBPS order no. and mention the issue and raise the complaint.

Tried this method, but at the last step I understood, amazon raises the issue with bbps. So I didn’t submit. Will try chat support

Update: wasted 30 minutes on chat support. Transferred my chat to 4 executives. Uploaded screenshot of the Amazon FAQ mentioning zero convenience fee for rupay dc. After everything, the chat guy is asking- may I know if your issue is whith the convenience fee !!! I closed the window to escape this loop of incompetence and stupidity

Call them directly on the customer care service. chatting or mailing is not that helpful. I called them then explained the matter convinence fee shouldn't have been charged on rupay debit card. So he transferred call to a higher officer. I told him the Matter and he said yes the charges should not have been levied. But since it is a utility transaction refund can not be directly processed. So he refunded 10 rs on a item that i previously ordered. I was lucky that the support agent was good on my first try. Try again if the agent is useless.

Is this issue Solved or Not guys?
Please confirm...

yes Previously 2 months they have taken charge from me.Same lpg booking i have done.
But this month showing no charges.
That must be a bug, because convenience fees were never supposed to be charged for gas cylinders. It's not mentioned in the terms and conditions.

I just checked my electricity bill and can see the convenience fees there.

First post has all the updated information.

Yes, it's really frustrating. I always have to get a refund from Amazon.

I've paid my bills 4 times now, and every time I have to get my money back.
I don't understand why they can't figure it out even after my brief explanation.

So clueless.

For my account i see fixed. Maybe all accounts will be fixed soon

currently I don't have any electric bill. So can't check. But i think if lpg is fixed rest will be fixed too
It seems like you didn't read the initial post.

LPG was never meant to have convenience fees. If you were charged for it, then it's definitely Amazon's fault.

Amazon’s terms and conditions do not include "LPG" in the convenience fees list.

Convenience fees are applied only to the following services: Electricity, Landline/Broadband, Postpaid, Water, Municipal Services, Municipal Tax, Cable TV, Education Fees, and Piped Gas.

Also, you won’t be charged convenience fees if you use a RuPay Platinum card. The issue with the SBI JCB RuPay Platinum card is that it’s being treated as a 'credit card' instead of a 'debit card.'

Hence, the fees :/
