So I have a DCB plastic LTF, and I was looking to upgrade it to Infinia. I meet the limit criteria on my DCB (15L) but I am falling a bit short of the spend ceiteria. My RM said I need to have 9L spend in the last 6 months, which honestly sounds excessive! I thought it was 8L.

But anyway, my question is, can I make some refundable bookings on my credit card, get the upgrade and refund the spends? Are there any issues with this approach? Can the bank take back my Infinia card after it has been activated? Also, what happens to the refunds once my DCB is closed, where will the refund go?

The spend criteria has been increased recently from around 7-8L to 9L in last 6months and these spends should be billed, as unbilled spends are not usually considered under the criteria. Any refunds on the old card will be routed to the new card

I get what you are trying to do. Basically, you want to do the cancellable bookings, upgrade your DCB to Infinia and then cancel the bookings and get the refund to the source. Not a clean way of going about it. Don't know if there would be any repercussions if banks finds out.

Usually banks don't cancel cards once upgraded/issued unless they find out unfair practices as per their terms
Refund will come to your card account AFAIK but consult with their CC.

No issues other than tracing back refund to new card.

Interesting idea. Try booking US flight tickets two way in MMT and give it a try. It's almost fully refundable except for convience fee.( Check with customer care before doing it)

While refund just ask MMT to refund to bank account stating that my card was cancelled. This worked for me earlier due to genuine cancellation of card.

@here

I have a query regarding Infinia Statement wrt Forex Markup Fee
I travelled out of the country 2 times in the last 2 months

In Jan's credit card statement, I have an entry as CONSOLIDATED FCY MARKUP FEE and is of around 5k rupees
I wanted to debug this markup fee, as this is additional to the GST etc. entries they post for each foreign currency transaction

How do I back-calculate the conversion rate HDFC is charging ?

Becacuse from the looks of it, if this fee is included, then the conversion rate is at least 1-2% higher than 2% that is claimed

The markup fee is for the transaction and gst is on markup fee.

Now calculate, if it's going beyond 2% + 18%gst.

Then raise complaint.

I faced the same issue with my DCB, they charged 1% extra on my forex transactions... I only looked at 2 high value transactions where I noticed the issue, did you find the case for all your transactions?
