Hi looking to purchase both a 1.5 ton & 1 ton AC for rooms.

Previous samsung split bought in 2011 1.5 ton performed well

My room size I measured is actually 291.675 sq ft & is on 1st floor with roof on top exposed to direct sun from 1 side

On Hitachi website it says it needs 291.675 * 120 = 35001 BTU cooling capacity

35001/12000 btu 2.91675 tr which means I need 2.91 ton AC

Another website says 291.75 needs to be multiplied by 25 to get BTU

Also there are so many features to choose from.

If you've used the ACs & actually found them to be useful instead if gimmicks please comment

Me too looking for a 1.5ton AC , 5-star inverter type (preferably without wifi/cloud and no PM2.5 air filter).
I have heard good things about Ogeneral, Daikin, Hitachi, but I have not used any of these.
Am told LG service absolutely disappointing.
Also check actual tonnage, most brands sell as 1.5T but it will be only 1.3ton.

Have been using Daikin 1.8T. Very efficient (consumes less energy), highly reliable and good service (may vary from area to area).

Get a 5 star inverter AC and forget about the running costs.

Daikin is very confusing FTKL, MKTL, ATKL, don't understand these labelling.
Also please share the model number 1.8 T you're using

How do you check actual tonnage?.
Are you talking about maximum power consumption?

Bro, I would recommend you buy A.C from Mitsubishi. I am having 2, 1.5 Ton AC (10+ years old) and they are absolutely beast in terms of cooling, and they don't require service frequently.

P.S- 20% more expensive then Samsung and LG.

In Tirupati, we have only 2 seasons. Summer n Severe Summer. We use ACs from mid-Feb to mid-Oct.

I use 2Tonne Voltas window AC unit for our master bedroom (10' by 14') and 1.5Tonne Carrier window AC for our 2nd bedroom (sparingly used) . We have a 1.5Tonne Sansui split AC for our 3rd bedroom (sparingly used).

I prefer window units than the split variety. Window units rarely fail - work non-stop for over 10-12 years - no need to fill gas every 2nd or 3rd year like split units.

I wanted to know from where do we check BTU?

Someone said Hitachi is a heavy duty compared to Panasonic, Lloyd, Voltas, LG, Samsung and other electronic brands.

Some say check actual tonnage, most brands sell as 1.5T but it will be only 1.3ton.

BTU depends on the appropriate sizing of the compressor. It cannot be measured or ensured by us.

Some inferior brands for cost cutting, undersize (install a lower capacity) compressor and run it at a higher the optimum load. This is similar to overclocking of PC components. For short spans it is manageable but using the compressor at higher loads causes over heating and reduces life of the compressor.

Reputed brands like Daikin, Mistsubishi, Hitachi and General do not do so and install the appropriately sized compressor.

Companies which claim they can change the tonnage from 0.9T to 1.2T (for a nominal 1T AC) are known to do so. Avoid such makes.

I was checking Daikin on Flipkart & saw some horror reviews.
Take a look at this Daikin 2023 Model 1.5 Ton 5 Star Split Inverter AC with PM 2.5 Filter - White on Flipkart
Most of those problems have been created due to poor voltage quality and poor installation practices.

The authorised service person from the company vacuums the cooling system before releasing the refrigerant. By not vacuuming it properly cooling problem will be there.

As I had mentioned in my initial post the service center guys vary from city to city. I live in Mumbai and have excellent service feedback.

Just Don't buy any third grade brand and you'll be fine, I've had good experience with Panasonic IFB & LG, bad experience with reconnect ac. Also used Videocon ac no major issues just lower quality product.

All these are more than 5years old before the wifi - inverter AC became a thing so nothing actually could've went seriously wrong.

Like for example croma is listing BTU.

They haven't mentioned the parameters properly. In attaching the specs. from Daikin site for your reference. These values refer to full / half & min - max value in BTU/h.

This model is a 3 star inverter, I would suggest you to get a 5 star inverter which is more efficient.

It'll be better to get it from your local branded store and to get it installed directly by company authorised service center.

My suggestion :

If the BTU/Area/math's calculations suggest a 1.5T unit, take a 2T unit.

A 1.5T barely manage to cool the room and struggles in severe summer whereas a 2T unit can effortlessly handle both the situations.
